Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is recruiting for an Environmental Science Specialist II in Piketon, OH. This position is for a full time temporary 6 month assignment.

We seek an Environmental Chemist who will be responsible for evaluating environmental laboratory analytical data for compliance with method and program/project QA/QC requirements. Reviews of laboratory-reported data will be conducted following EPAs National Functional Guidelines or other procedures, as directed. Duties will include preparing written reports and editing electronic data in the cloud or through electronic file transfer to incorporate validation qualifiers, as well as reviewing the work of others. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently.

Under general supervision, performs Environmental Chemist Job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities include:

Verification and Validation of Analytical Data

* Contract Compliance Verification and Data Validation of laboratory analytical data, including radiochemistry, inorganic (classical and metals), and organic analyses, as well as microbiological, toxicity and physical testing, as required. Data anticipated for validation will be of several types generated under the regulatory umbrellas of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Matrices and matrix subtypes will include groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, and solids of various types including waste, construction debris, biota, and air filters

* It is expected that 200-250 data packages will be required to be validated on an annual basis. The work load for this task is not level loaded over the course of the performance period. Individual project sampling activities and schedules will drive the work flow. The Sample Management Office (SMO) will work with and update the contractor on the expected Contract Compliance Verification work load and the Data Validation Manager will work with the SMO and update the contractor on the expected data validation work load. Data packages requiring validation will be made available to the contractor as they are received and are verified by directed by the Data Validation Manager.

* Validation of laboratory analytical data will be in accordance with the most current revision of laboratory procedures and current regulatory guidance Data packages requiring validation will be validated at one of three levels. The levels are:

* Contract Compliance Verification will be in accordance with contractors procedures and includes a review of the Case narrative associated with the evaluated data, a review of Chains of Custody, and an assessment for completeness of the submittal, holding times, detection limits, and any apparent anomalies in reported results

Requirements

* BS degree in a chemistry or closely related field and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Specific job related experience include:2+ years of experience in organic or inorganic analysis using CLP, SW-846 and other EPA methods

* Experience applying EPA National Functional Guidelines for data validation

* Attention to detail and the ability to think critically

* Strong PC skills including Microsoft software

* Expert understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies and requirements

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills

* Active DOE "L" or "Q" Security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
