Snyder & Associates has an immediate opportunity for an environmental scientist. This position in our Environmental department is responsible primarily for the completion of wetland delineations, ecological surveys, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, cultural resource investigations, and NEPA documentation.

The successful candidate will manage projects in support of both public and private clients. This person will be assigned to conduct fieldwork and documentation for wetland delineations, Phase I ESAs, natural resources investigations, threatened and endangered species surveys, etc. Work will include research, site visits, interviews, preparation of exhibits, technical writing, interaction with clients, and communication with other Snyder & Associates team members.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct wetland and stream delineations in the Midwest with understanding of the Midwest Regional Supplement
  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Conduct SWPPPs and SPCC plans
  • Serve as the point of contact/client relations lead for clients;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in the field and office;
  • Managing information development, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, GPS data collection, consultations, permitting, and report preparations for the US Army Corps of Engineers and state agencies;
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental permitting in the Midwest, including experience interpreting and applying the National Environmental Policy Act, Sections 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act IDNR permits, and EPA NPDES permitting; and
  • Partnering with integrated environmental services teams to deliver successful projects.


The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, anthropology, or related discipline. A Master's degree is preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a consulting role completing wetland delineations, NEPA documentation and ecological surveys. Professional wetland scientist (PWS) certification is preferred.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Professional Soil Scientist with direct (self-performing) experience delineating waters of the US, including wetlands.
  • Ability to articulate field data information into narrative reports and figures/plans in a clear, concise format.
  • Knowledge of GPS data collection preferred.
  • Basic ArcGIS knowledge and skills required, intermediate ArcGIS skills a plus.
  • Ability to prepare wetland related permit applications.
  • Ability to prepare wetland data forms and functions and value reports in support of permit applications.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply regulatory associations, including the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USACE, IDNR, NDEE, NDEQ, and MDNR.
  • Knowledge of documents related to requests for proposals.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates related to wetland delineations and permitting;
  • Knowledge of computer applications and functions, including ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Ability to meet project deadlines;
  • Excellence in verbally and written communication, including advanced technical writing abilities;
  • Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with clients; and
  • Travel time of 25-50% includes seasonal day trip fieldwork.


Prior experience conducting wetland delineations, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, hazardous waste studies, cultural resources investigations, noise analysis and/or SPCC analysis preferred.
