Cardno is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our Natural Resources team of scientists, engineers, planners and other environmental professionals in our Northern California business unit. Project work includes assisting local, state and federal agencies complete due diligence, design, permitting and environmental clearance for recreation; infrastructure; resource restoration; resources management for climate adaptation, resiliency and wildfire risks; water resources; utilities; and comprehensive land use planning.
The successful candidate will have a strong education background and experience in wildlife, botanical and forestry resources along with field survey practices/protocols. The ideal candidate will also possess CEQA and NEPA documentation experience, strategic planning and program management skills and have a working understanding of meeting and managing client expectations.

Job Description:

> Develop, Manage, Implement and Document botanical, wildlife and forest health surveys (for special status species, conditions, invasive species, health and vigor, transition communities, restoration strategies, fuels management).

> Manage project and task level efforts on environmental permitting and certification projects.

> Prepares work plans, assembles project team, delegates tasks and ensures compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
> Mentorship of team members in project management.

> Leads the preparation of field reports, Biological Assessments/Evaluations and CEQA and NEPA biological resources analysis.

>Position spends approximately 50% of their time in the field and will be expected to travel to and hike in to remote locations with a team of two or more and in some cases camp out at the project site when multi-day survey efforts are required.

Basic Qualifications :

> Bachelor's degree or higher in botany, forestry, range management, wildlife management, natural resources management, biological science, or a closely related field.

> 8 years of relevant professional experience in environmental assessment .

> Experienced project manager with the ability to successfully manage field staff and subcontractors, budgets and clearly defining scopes of work.

> Demonstrated ability to work with federal and state regulatory agencies and the public.

> Well versed in both botanical and wildlife taxonomy of California and Nevada.

>Strong writer, with experience preparing field reports, Biological Assessments/Evaluations and CEQA and NEPA biological resources analysis
> Federal and state permitting and certification experience with environmental projects, in California.

> NEPA- and ESA-related compliance and permitting expertise.
> Knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations.
> Positive and energetic attitude, able to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team oriented work environment.
> Solid time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects with tight deadlines.
> Self-motivated; strong initiative.
> Resourceful .

> Strong experience in both the public and private sector with permitting and compliance of state and federal regulation.
