Job Description

Corporate Travelling Microbiologist

This role is responsible of the development and continuous improvement of the Microbiological Control Program and providing support and guidance to the 7 manufacturing sites to ensure compliance. The division microbiologist completes hygiene audits at the sites to identify areas of risks from a contamination perspective and to assess compliance to Quality standards.

Responsibilities include:
  • Primary microbiology technical lead for operations with direct responsibility
  • Lead annual manufacturing site audits across the division; support resulting site continuous improvement plans and troubleshooting of microbial contamination problems
  • Publish results
  • Lead Manufacturing Hygiene CIP's that drive quality
  • Provide microbiological expertise in the area of water, facility, environmental, standard microbiology test methods, and process/product control systems
  • Accountable for the continual improvement of Microbiological quality standards through analysis of current practices and optimization towards standardization, operational effectiveness and operational efficiency
  • Develop other manufacturing site resources by standardizing testing and monitoring protocols, improving root cause evaluation to ensure the right corrective action, and managing change and communication associated with MCP enhancements
  • Ensure effective coordination, communication and collaboration with Corporate Center R&D Microbiology Lab
  • Support timely investigation and resolution of all product hygiene quality issues
  • Publish monthly hygiene monitoring metrics from data generated at each of the manufacturing sites
  • Ensure effective communication of activities / project status
  • Develop and maintain a manufacturing hygiene training program for relevant personnel within the Global Supply Chain division
  • Perform microbiology testing which includes streak/spread plating, basic data analysis and report writing
  • Daily activities will require utilization of basic microbiology techniques (e.g., aseptic technique, spread & streak plating, plat count, serial dilutions, isolation of microorganisms, sterile filtration, etc.), and utilization of microbiology lab equipment (e.g., micro-pipetters, incubators, chemical fume hood, etc.) or coatings lab equipment (e.g. air mixers, paint shakers, fume trunks, pH meter, balance, etc.)
  • Independently is capable of summarizing and interpreting microbiology data with little to no review by a supervisor
  • Communicate and influence at multiple levels within the organization
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
  • BS/BA in Microbiology is preferred
  • Proficiency in Data Management, MCP Program Leadership, and Microbiology Testing Knowledge is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Minitab and Business Objects is preferred
  • Experience with Accelerated Root Case analysis is preferred
  • Experience facilitating training is preferred
  • 5 years of experience in microbiology. Experience with microbiology testing which includes streak/spread plating, basic data analysis and report writing
  • Daily activities (e.g. aseptic technique, spread & streak plating, plate count, serial dilutions, isolation of microorganisms, sterile filtration, etc.), and utilization of microbiology lab equipment (e.g. micro-pipetters, incubators, chemical fume hood, etc.) or coatings lab equipment (e.g. air mixers, paint shakers, fume trunks, pH meter, balance, etc.
  • Independently is capable of summarizing and interpreting microbiology data with little to no review by a supervisor
  • Willing and able to travel 40% to manufacturing facilities to establish and maintain Microbiological testing and data collection for the corporate team in Quality
  • Must have outstanding communication, (written, and verbal) and presentation skills, excellent organizational and presentation skills with data
  • Ability to juggle projects in varying priority
  • Communicate and influence at multiple levels within the organization
