Summary :

Under the direction of the EHS Regulatory Compliance Manager and guidance from Operations Management the EHS technician must work in coordination with facility regional and local facility management. The EHS Technician priority is to protect employee health and safety by making sure risks in the workplace are properly controlled. They are responsible for investigating accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures and report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities, inspections, or environmental testing. EHS technicians will inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. The EHS technician is responsible of compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents and interpret safety regulations. The EHS technician will manage aspects of the facilities environmental program which includes chemical safety, hazardous waste, wastewater, storm water, air emissions, and applicable permitting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following : Other duties may be assigned.

Health and Safety :
  • Coordinate and ensure that all aspects of health, safety and sustainable development programs are implemented in the Ramsey lab in accordance to Federal, State, Global, and Corporate Requirements.
  • Maintain the Hoya Safety Management System for the designated facility.
  • Promotes an incident-free work environment by developing programs that routinely train, monitor and assure a safe and compliant workplace.
  • Chairs the lab safety committee to improve and promote onsite health and safety.
  • Assist in incident investigations, root cause and corrective actions.
  • Assists in tracking OSHA 300 Logs, workers compensation claims and injury reports.
  • Conduct routine programs to train managers, supervisors and employees in workplace safety facility inspections and risk assessments to detect existing or potential hazards and determine corrective or preventive measures.
  • Ability to track facility safety metrics and report to corporate EHS Regulatory Compliance Manager.
  • Continual improvement, evaluation and assessment of facility lock out tag out program.
  • Continual improvement evaluation and assessment of facility confined space program
  • Management and continual review of the facilities OSHA required written programs (hazardous communication program, respiratory protection program, fall protection etc.).
  • Assist in conducting new hire and annual safety and health training.
  • Actively facilitate the risk assessment process.
  • Act as Facility Chemical Substance Supervisor (FCSS).

Environmental Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures timely submittal of all regulatory reporting and permits (MCES Wastewater, NPDES-DMR quarterly, MPCA Air permit, Anoka County Hazardous Waste, Tier 2 reporting, EPA reporting.)
  • Maintain the Hoya Environmental Management System for the designated facility.
  • Facilitates the Team to drive projects and engagement that will lead to reductions in energy and water usage and waste minimization.
  • Monitor, inspect, and monitor all hazardous waste storage, proper secondary container labeling requirements, and chemical handling in maintained to standard.
  • Maintain and ensure proper filing of hazardous waste manifest, water meter reading, capped air emissions compliance, and EPA generator status is compliant.
  • Ability to work with Federal, State and Local environmental regulatory agencies.
  • EHS Technician will ensure that R&D lab implements and maintains their Chemical Hygiene Program. Including monitoring training expectations and program requirements.

Qualifications - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Two year or Four-year degree in a related field
  • 2 + years Safety and Environmental experience
  • Experience coordinating/leading training activities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • DOT Training

Computer Skills - Working knowledge of current Microsoft operating software, especially Excel.
