* Duties Help Duties Summary This position is assigned to a field office in New York state, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The purpose of the position is to assist District Conservationist in developing and implementing a comprehensive natural resource conservation program with local agricultural producers. Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the 07/29/2021 of the announcement. Basic Requirements: A. Must have a bachelor's or higher degree in soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering. The study must have included 30 semester hours in a natural resource or agricultural field, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science. (You must submit transcripts.) OR B. Must have a combination of education and experience: at least 30 semester hours in one or more of the disciplines as shown in A above, including at least 12 semester hours in a combination of soils and crops or plant science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Of the 12 semester hours, a minimum of 3 semester hours must have been in soils and 3 semester hours in crops or plant science. (You must submit transcripts.) In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must also meet the minimum qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: GS-9: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that included: * Providing technical assistance and guidance on various types of natural resource conservation programs; * Collecting data to update and modify natural resources technical guides; and * Assisting landowners in ensuring compliance with conservation standards and specifications. (Must be reflected in resume.) OR Must possess at least two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field such as soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering. (You must submit transcripts.) OR Must possess a combination of the specialized experience and graduate education as described above, such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for this specialty and grade. Only graduate education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be used when combining education and experience for this specialty and grade. (Must submit transcripts and be reflected in resume.) GS-11: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that included: * Preparing reports and analyses in order to recommend and justify natural resource management strategies; * Assisting the development of a variety of conservation plans for landowners; * Collecting data to update and modify natural resources technical guides; and * Assisting landowners in ensuring compliance with conservation standards and specifications. (Must be reflected in resume.) OR Must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field such as soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, agricultural education, or agricultural engineering. OR Must possess a combination of the specialized experience and graduate education as described above, such that they total 100% of the stated minimum qualifications for this specialty and grade. Only graduate education in excess of the first 36 semester hours may be used when combining education and experience for this specialty and grade. Physical Demands: The conservation work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, prolonged walking on rough terrain, crossing ditches and furrows, and/or climbing steep banks. Work Environment: The work requires regular and recurring exposure to operating agricultural equipment requiring safety precautions; protective gear and clothing are necessary at such times. There may be exposure to inclement weather, poisonous insects and animals, and irritating plants.
