* Duties Help Duties Summary About the Position: Serves as the Supervisory Interdisciplinary for Chemical Operations Directorate at Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA) with the responsibility of directing and coordinating the activities in support of mission assignments within the Directorate, which include the chemical laboratory and agent monitoring areas. Has overall responsibility for the quality control function of the toxic chemical laboratory. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * Monitor daily operations and trends and to enable responsible personnel to take required action to ensure the validity of all data generated in the laboratory. * Serves as Senior Chemist or Senior Physical Scientist for BGCA. * Responsible for overseeing all operations of the chemical laboratory and ensures the chemical laboratory can and does perform its mission. * Initiates and monitors contracts and forecasts and recommends budgetary expenditures dealing with laboratory and monitoring functions. * Develops guidance for the training of operators of monitoring devices and associated equipment. * Responsible for the development of laboratory tests and analytical methods used to determine the accuracy and precision of analytical results, subsequently modifying or adapting standing procedures as necessary. * As Chief, Laboratory and Monitoring Division, has responsibility for management and supervision of all assigned personnel. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Chemist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 or above grade level in the Federal service which includes overseeing the laboratory operations of a toxic chemical laboratory (TCL); coordinating and managing dilute chemical agent and Environmental and hazardous waste studies. Responsible for the development of laboratory tests and analytical methods used to determine the accuracy and precision of analytical results, subsequently modifying or adapting standing procedures as necessary. Develop guidance for the training of operators of monitoring devices and associated equipment. Manage hazardous waste generated during igloo leaker isolation procedures, laboratory analysis, remedial operations and in permitted or regulated facilities; and maintaining and managing Chemical Agent Monitoring Suit sheds and 90 day storage facilities.
