Job Description:

Environmental Planner I - Transportation Infrastructure - Atlanta, Georgia

Opportunity :

Our Parsons Atlanta ( Peachtree Corners/ Norcross ) office is now hiring an Environmental Planner I to support multiple initiates for our transportation infrastructure practice.

The successful candidate will be an environmental planner or scientist supporting a team to conduct natural resource surveys, assess impacts, develop mitigation measures and coordinate permit actions in support of project development efforts for major road & highway and possibly rail/ transit transportation projects.

The successful candidate will some experience with NEPA projects and capable of supporting field operations for environmental investigations. Duties may include: field investigations of natural resources (wetlands, biological habitats and threatened and endangered species), technical analysis and documentation, permit coordination, and client communication.

The Environmental Planner / Scientist must have the technical experience to support specialized environmental teams and conducting field investigations of natural resources as required for major transportation projects. The Environmental Planner / Scientist at this level has solid training with environmental planning and field practices as well as knowledge of compliance with NEPA, Clean Water Act and other environmental laws and regulations. A working knowledge of NEPA regulations is essential for this role, and experience with Georgia regulations is a plus. This position will allow for initial training in civil engineering practices for individuals with a qualifying Degree.

Responsibilities :

Support of NEPA documentation and environmental permits for transportation projects.

Coordinate with other task leaders, particularly environmental planners, traffic engineers and designers, to develop appropriate methodological approaches, budgeting, and follow-through to complete tasks. May also coordinate with local authorities, civic leaders, social and natural scientists, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, transportation, industrial, and community uses.

Familiar with state-of-the-art practices in developing mitigation strategies for impacted wetlands is a plus, protected habitats of rare plant and animals and other environmental resources.

Prepare presentations and supporting materials for public meetings and workshops.

Anticipate and embrace the need to address issues and tasks of importance to our client, manager of group, other planners and senior management.

Requirements :

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field is required.

At least 3 years or more experience in environmental planning with an emphasis supporting transportation projects is required.

(e.g., American Institute of Certified Planners ( AICP), Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Environmental Professional) are a plus

Experience in preparing NEPA documents in accordance with the US DOT guidelines and specific State DOTs requirements.

The preferred candidate will have recent experience working with Georgia Department of Transportation projects.
