What if you could repair broken genes? That is the question we ask ourselves at Editas Medicine. We're focused on translating the power and potential of the CRISPR/Cas9 and CRISPR/Cpf1 (also known as Cas12a) genome editing systems into a robust pipeline of medicines for people living with serious diseases around the world. Our goal is to discover, develop, manufacture, and commercialize transformative, durable, precision genomic medicines for many diseases. We're looking for talented, dedicated, passionate people to join our team and help us pioneer this field and do big, bold things that have never been achieved before. Are you full of hope, possibilities, and a belief that, working together, we can truly revolutionize the development of medicines to help patients around the world? If the answer is yes, then Editas Medicine is the place for you.

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative molecular biologist to join the Sequencing Team with expertise in assay development for short and long read NGS technologies. The Scientist I will consult with scientific teams to discuss assay development needs. The candidate will outline the approach and timelines for assay development. This person will work with the scientific teams to coordinate assay validation. Once validated, the candidate will work with the Sequencing Production Team and to transition new assays into a high-throughput production process. A deep understanding on Next Generation Sequencing Technologies will be essential to successfully execute this objective.

The candidate will also work with the CompBio and Informatics teams to build LIMS tools to track process performance, capture data and establish performance metrics and develop new analysis pipelines to create a streamlined and robust sequencing platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Candidate will be a team expert on the latest state of the art sequencing technologies
  • Consult with program scientists on novel assay development needs
  • Experience with Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and PacBio technologies
  • Extensive library prep experience a must: e.g., Nextera library prep, RNA-seq (short and long read), Custom Hybrid Selection designs, Cas9 Targeted Sequencing, rhAmpSeq multiplex panels
  • Interact directly with the CompBio team to develop custom analysis pipelines for new assays
  • Work with the Informatics and Sequencing Production team to automate process and track samples and sequencing data
  • Present new methodology and results to leadership team and company scientific meetings
  • Maintain and update ELN
  • Keep up with the literature on new sequencing methods and technologies

Requirements
  • PhD or MS degree in molecular biology or related field
  • 2+ (PhD) years hands-on assay development and library prep experience for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies
  • Experience working in a high-throughput sequencing environment desired
  • Experience with automation is a plus: Beckman FX, Labcyte Echo, and the MANTIS liquid handler
  • Ability to perform with versatility in a high paced environment
  • Self-motivated, highly skilled and capable of working independently to drive assignment to completion, well-organized with attention to details, analytical and results-oriented
  • Excellent presentation skills
