ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant in our Minneapolis, MN office to provide technical support on a part time basis for mid to large-scale capital development projects for energy sector clients. You will provide technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM's ERM's global Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) technical team to share multi-disciplinary resources and best practices across the industry. This position will focus on providing editorial support for technical reports for power, renewable, and midstream energy projects. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The position will require the candidate to work both independently and on project teams, and to possess the capacity to manage varying priorities and multiple tasks to work on concurrent projects and meet project deadlines. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience authoring and editing technical reports for capital development projects, including strong technical writing and communication skills.

  • Review and edit technical reports required by federal, state or local environmental regulatory authorities for energy development expansion, and maintenance projects.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute natural resources impact assessment and capital project reports (ERM services broadly include environmental impact assessment, routing studies, land use planning, and facility siting & permitting).
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in environmental science or related natural resources science field of study.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of consulting experience conducting technical reviews and authoring environmental report in support of natural resources permitting and compliance.
  • Proven experience working on proposal preparation, technical writing, and technical editing.
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite software.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, which includes being comfortable and effective at communicating complex technical knowledge and concepts to other staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
