AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to be based in Billings, MT.

About DCS-Environment
With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM's global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals - to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.
Job Duties May Include, but are not limited to:
- Collect soil, water, and vapor samples using approved sampling plans and industry accepted methods. Document work with detailed field notes.
- Remediation system operations.
- Healthy and safety management.
- Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs.
- Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance.
- Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area.
- Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements.
- Coordination with and oversight from task and project managers, on-site subcontractors, and field staff.
- Office support including preparation of work plans, health and safety plans, and technical reports.
- Manage environmental data. Prepare tables and figures to present data.
- Perform other tasks assigned by project and task managers.
- Support assessment and remediation at other client facilities under direction of staff as necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field.
- Constantly move across indoor and outdoor work areas with uneven terrain, noise, chemicals, moving and dangerous equipment.
- Constant repetitive bending/stooping to perform duties such as monitor groundwater, well gauging, sampling, testing, repairs and vapor probe installation.
- Constant exposure to variable outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, dryness, moisture.
- Constantly move and lift 25 up to 50 pounds bags of sand, buckets of groundwater and field equipment unassisted.
- Repetitive hand movements, power gripping and squeezing to operate hand tools levers and other equipment.
- Frequent operation and moving of hazardous equipment such as an air and oxidant sparge system.
- Frequently lift compressors and mechanical equipment weighing 50 to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Occasionally wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection and fall protection all day.
- Frequently operate work and fleet vehicles on jobsites.
- Occasionally work alone on remote work areas.
- Occasionally ascends/descends on a ladder.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience providing knowledge relevant to waste management, environmental site assessments, environmental site investigation and characterization, and environmental remediation is preferred. Desired attributes include:
- Knowledge of environmental sampling practices
- Energetic and detail-oriented, with collaborative style and innovative approach
- Receives and maintains required safety training including OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Training with annual 8-hr refresher; client-specific training and regulatory-specific training
- Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly
- Excellent attention to Health and Safety
Additional Information:
- Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.
- Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test
- Must possess a valid US driver's license and this position may be subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record Screening
- Must be able to meet medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical exam
- Some travel may be required. Estimated to be around 20%
- This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.
