We are seeking a Biologist to support the overall functions of the Drug Development and Clinical Sciences Branch, Therapeutics Research Program, DAIDS at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Provide support of lab activities related to the structural biology of viruses and vaccine particles
and vaccine development, such as but not limited to: prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell culture
techniques for the production and purification of influenza viruses and the production of
recombinant protein antigens and antibodies by gradient centrifugation and column
chromatography.
• Perform cell culture techniques related to cell-based assays such as antibody-dependent cellular
cytotoxicity (ADCC,) microneutralization, Median Tissue Culture Infectious Dose (TCID50)
assays would be preferred
• Perform general biochemical and immunological assays such as hemagglutination inhibition
assay, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, and ELISA.
• Perform and analyze immunological assays according to Laboratory Standard Operating
Procedures, including but not limited to Western Blot, ELISA, ADCC, microneutralization, and
(TCID50) assays, HAI and other inhibition assays.
• Perform molecular biology/virology methods including but not limited to DNA extraction and
purification, PCR, RT-qPCR, molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, transfections, bacterial
transformations, recombinant protein production/purification and microscopy.
• Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to characterize test articles, analyze
specimens, and maintain detailed records of assays and data.
• Maintain cell cultures (e.g., Vero, MDCK cells), and perform virus amplification, harvest, and
titration
• Receive, organize, and distribute specimens, documenting shipments using specified electronic
systems.
• Apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles to characterize test articles, analyze
specimens, and maintain detailed records of assays and data.
• Maintain cell cultures (e.g., Vero, CRFK, Sf-9, CHO, RAW264.7, CaCo-2 cells, intestinal
enteroids), and perform virus or VLP amplification, harvest, and titration.

Specific Qualifications:
• All support positions required a minimum of a BS degree; some require a MS, MD, or Ph.D.
• The education, skills and relevant years of experience required for each support position
are consistent with those identified as the minimum requirements for the labor categories
specified in the contract.
• Biologist:
o Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in biology or a related field.
o Minimum of six years of laboratory experience performing the serological and
molecular techniques detailed above, as well as experience working with viruses and
tissue culture.
o Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and report
generation.
o Concise, clear and professional verbal and written communication.
o Demonstrated skills in organization, problem solving, resourcefulness and flexibility.
o Demonstrated ability in conducting high-quality experiments, including dexterity in
pipetting.
o Foot travel within the NIH campus
