We are a team of planners, economists, researchers, data scientists, and geospatial analysts and we are looking for a Park and Conservation Economist to join us. In this role you will collaborate directly with park and conservation professionals and stakeholders across the country to create parks and trails, protect land, and enhance funding for special places in communities large and small. We are open to this position being based in any TPL office.POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Park and Conservation Economist will create effective economic research that is used to advocate for land conservation and parks across the country and increase access for rural and urban communities that are underserved by existing park and open space infrastructure. This position is responsible for the following primary tasks: 1) managing a portfolio of simultaneous economic projects of varying levels of complexity, scope, budget, and team size. These projects expand the full scope of the research process, from initiation of investigation and planning of methods, through interpretation of finding and preparation of final reports; 2) conducting economic research and technical analysis including econometrics, benefit cost analysis, benefits transfer, input-output modeling, and other methods; 3) writing reports and developing factsheets and other marketing collateral to disseminate research findings to diverse audiences; 4) presenting research findings and collaborating with TPL's marketing team to leverage opportunities; and 5) advancing TPL's economic program by making presentations to demonstrate thought leadership, initiating research proposals, generating new business/funding streams, and making important and often sophisticated contributions to a larger pattern of research.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerform qualitative and quantitative research and develop new methodologies for data collection, analysis, and reviewManage a portfolio of projects conducted by teams comprised of colleagues with diverse sets of expertise (e.g. GIS, marketing, finance, field programs), consultants, and partners (including nonprofit and academic)Manage economics projects from scoping and budget through kickoff, data collection, data analysis, report writing, review, design, and public releaseEffectively communicate results to broad audiences, including the general public, elected officials, park and county commissioners, as well as newspaper, radio, and television outletsAdvise internally and externally on how to use economic research to build partnerships and inspire nontraditional advocates for parks and land conservationApply knowledge of federal, state, local, and nonprofit land conservation and park policies and programs across the countryQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree with emphasis on environmental economics and policy or natural resource management, economics, or related field, Master's Degree preferred5+ years of experience in economics, policy, project management, or relevant fieldExcellent client relationship building and project management skillsProven ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads in a dynamic environmentAbility to identify needs and work independently on projectsAttention to detail, organization, diligence and commitment to rigorous researchExcellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations and report writingComputer literacy, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Statistical Software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA), and SalesforceAbility to travel nationally occasionally once travel is safe and internal policies allow for in-person meetingsINCLUSION
