Become a part of the cutting edge and highly innovative Chemical Biology and Discovery Chemistry departments. Using robust scientific methodology, bleeding edge chemistry, and state-of-the-art instrumentation and automation, we collaborate to discover the next medical breakthrough. To achieve our goal, we focus on delivering novel mechanisms into our pipeline, expanding druggable space, and the pursuit of detailed knowledge of the mechanism of action for our key pipeline assets. We partner with multiple functional groups to complement capabilities, accelerate discoveries, and advance the best drug candidates into the clinic for significant unmet medical needs.
Passion for thinking outside the box is critical in Chemical Biology as a field and to the success of enabling drug discovery programs. We are therefore seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Chemical Biology group in the Discovery Chemistry organization within our company's Research Laboratories.
The successful candidate will work closely with scientists in Chemical Biology (comprising chemistry, proteomics, and cell pharmacology) as well as colleagues in Discovery Chemistry, Quantitative Biosciences, Genetics and Biomarker Sciences, and Therapeutic Area Biology.
- Become part of a creative and flexible team; collaborate and work closely with other scientists.
- Contribute to project strategy, experimental design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of experiments.
- Collaborate with Oncology, Immunology, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases, Neuroscience and Infectious Diseases discovery teams to develop and execute on Chemical Biology partnered programs.
- Contribute to the development of technology builds that further enable the Chemical Biology vision and mission.
- Establish strong relationships within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive drug discovery initiatives.
- Function and communicate effectively in a highly productive multi-disciplinary environment.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Independent synthetic chemistry
- Hands-on exposure to cell culture and experimental pharmacology
- Have a good understanding of biology concepts and chemical application to solve biological problems
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Mechanistic studies of drug action or drug target ID
- Novel chemical probe development
- Targeted protein degradation
- CRISPR genome editing
- Live cell imaging or other novel cellular assays
- Drugging/targeting RNA with small molecules
Required Experience:
- PhD or equivalent in Chemical Biology or a related discipline (MS W/3+ yrs, BS w/5+ yrs working experience in a pharma, biotech or academic setting)
- A track record of achievement in independently designing and executing experiments is required
- Highly self-motivated, creative, and critical thinking to solve complex technical and scientific problems with excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational and communication (oral and written) skills
- Robust publication record
- Possess exemplary analytical skills
- Ability to work independently yet team-oriented and able to build strong relationships in highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives
- Capable of prioritizing deliverables among multiple simultaneous projects
