Based in Cambridge, MA, BioNTech US serves as BioNTech's North American headquarters and is an important part of our global effort to pioneer the development of next-generation immuno-oncology therapies. BioNTech US is a fully integrated subsidiary with a strong foundation in Europe and a focus on the development of novel neoantigen-targeted T cell therapies, complementing BioNTech's highly innovative scientific approach and diversified pipeline of transformative cancer medicines. As a key research and clinical development hub, BioNTech US will enable BioNTech's growing presence in the US.
We believe computational biologists are central to modern biological research. We are seeking an innovative, collaborative, and enthusiastic senior computational biologist to work with us on a variety of high-dimensional bioinformatics projects centered on target identification, therapeutic design, and translational research. The successful candidate will be tackling challenges in understanding the immune system, and how to harness it to develop novel prophylactics and therapeutics. Our new computational biologist will work closely with immunologists and molecular biologists both in the Systems Immunology team, and across teams at the broader BioNTech US research team. Key part of the role would be to design and analyze multimodal genomics experimental data, develop analysis strategies and tools to filter and distill in-house and large public datasets into focused hypotheses that drive target discovery, validation, and therapeutic approach. At BioNTech US, we are at the cutting-edge of infectious disease and cancer immunotherapy research. Our new senior computational biologist in Systems Immunology will be a critical thought leader in the company and will help tackle challenges at the forefront of cancer and infectious disease. Here, you'll achieve greatness.Supporting BioNTech's R&D team in the US by:Identify novel targets for infectious disease and cancer immunotherapy by utilizing integrative bioinformatic approaches to multi-modal omics datasetsWork with advanced genomic data (single cell multi omic data, RNAseq, TCRseq, WES) to understand and impact immune cell phenotypes in disease settingsPropose and shape elegant experiments and data interpretation through close collaboration with experimental scientistsLeverage in-house and large public datasets to identify novel infectious disease targets, and enhance target selection and validationGenerate mechanistic hypotheses about response and resistance to novel immunotherapies using genomic and immunological patient-derived data.Develop innovative, robust, analysis pipelines that can be applied in research and clinical settingsLiaise with experts in immunology, clinical medicine, infectious disease, and software engineering as a project team member and provide expertise as a scientific resource for key company programsIdentify, develop, manage, and contribute to collaborations and partnershipsWhat you have to offer.Minimum requirements; Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology/immunology, or a related discipline with a strong record of publications/patents is required. Industry or academic experience post-PhD is preferred.Experience developing and optimizing NGS-based tools for cancer, immunology and/or infectious disease research (e.g., gene expression, lineage reconstruction and phylogenies).Familiarity with single-cell sequencing approaches and data analysis would be is a significant plus.Use of Linux in a cluster-computing environment.Fluency in R and/or Python (strictly required).Demonstrated ability to formulate and test hypotheses for potential targets or biomarkers by designing and implementing novel computational approachesFamiliarity with the basics of immunology; specific expertise in infectious disease, TCR repertoire analysis or TCR recognition mechanisms would be a significant plusCapacity to prioritize and work independently to complete tasks and advance projects with minimal supervisionExperience with mining public data sets, such as TCGA, GTEx, CCLE or pathogen-based databasesStrong written and verbal skills; ability to translate and communicate complex information and concepts for scientists of diverse backgroundsPositive and collaborative attitude; ability to work effectively with internal and external collaborators and multidisciplinary teams composed of scientists and non-scientists to translate emerging research to guide internal programsCapacity to prioritize and work independently to complete tasks and advance projects with minimal supervisionCreative and innovative thinking; track record of thought leadershipBenefits for you.BioNTech US is committed to the well being of our team members and offers a variety of benefits supporting our diverse employee base.
