OVERVIEW:
The scientist will use broad knowledge of microbiological sciences and genetics to improve industrial Streptomyces strains. Will also develop a deeper understanding of natural product biosynthesis during fermentation of various Streptomyces species.
Note: This position is expected to last 12 months.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify process improvement opportunities through data collection, mining, observation, and technical report writing in collaboration with senior scientists and technicians
Ensure all experiments are well designed and documented with clear objectives
Technically design and execute genetic engineering experiments
Aseptically work with different bacteria
Manage small-scale fermentation and additional laboratory projects, as required
Responsible for mentoring, training and scientific development of junior scientist and technicians through sharing best practices on laboratory operations, reviewing technical data and information
Accurately document work in electronic notebook and/or batch records
Write and present technical summaries in reports and at department technical meetings and reviews
Collaborate technically with scientist in supported manufacturing areas sharing key learnings
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related major AND 5+ years POST academic experience in microbiology or genetic engineering OR MS in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related major AND 5+ years academic experience in microbiology or genetic engineering
Previous laboratory experience including: PCR, primer desing cloning, restriction digestion, DNA isolation, microscope, bacterial culturing in liquid and on solid media, etc
Candidates must have experience in experiment design
Candidates must demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills
Technically inquisitive, attentive to detail and must exhibit good problem solving skills
High learning agility, able to multitask, and able to prioritize activities
Able to work independently and collaboratively with others
Demonstrated strong communication skills, both oral and written
Demonstrated problem solving abilities
The candidate should be acquainted with basic statistics and be proficient with the use of Microsoft software products
