Opportunity Summary
Abt Associates is seeking a Global Technical Director to serve as an economic growth leader to grow and implement Abt's economic growth portfolio (public financial management, impacting investing, trade, agriculture, and private sector engagement) with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), as part of the International Development Division. This leader will serve as a technical leader responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and implementation of proposal and project work and serve as the primary client contact for economic growth work. This position will also spend considerable time building Abt's reputation and capability in economic growth, including publications, conference presentations, and thought leadership.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Serve as a key advisor to Abt and USAID on international economic and development issues, including emphasis on innovative financing instruments, impact/social investment, fin-tech, private sector engagement, agriculture, and food security and market systems approaches.
- Create vision and direction for the Abt's economic growth strategy and implement strategy to deliver results that focus on key issues, tasks, and priorities related to international economic growth and Abt's clients and cooperating countries.
- Oversee and manage significant business development activities, including developing proposal technical strategy and designing content that addresses client solicitations.
- Direct efforts to identify and recruit staff to implement Abt's economic growth work around the globe.
- Maintain an industry presence as a subject-matter expert, by publishing regularly and/or by presenting at annual conferences and meetings.
- Manage complex and large projects with primary responsibility for stakeholder relations. This includes leading the scoping of technical assignments, work planning, and budgeting to be responsive to donor clients and host-country counterparts.
- Build collaborations with bi-lateral and multi-lateral organizations, government agencies, and private sector organizations.
- Support delivery of all economic growth programs across Abt Associates, through experience sharing, short-term technical assistance, and mentorship.
- Build diverse, collaborative, and high performing teams, capable of meeting and exceeding goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Business, Economics, Agriculture, Development economics, or equivalent
- 10 years of relevant experience in international development with the USAID
- Must have experience working and/or living in Low or Middle-Income Countries
- Proven track record of integration of GESI in economic growth programs
- Demonstrated involvement in industry organizations and conferences and industry leadership
- Extensive experience in providing technical advice and designing interventions, or policy-level analysis
- Experience with monitoring and evaluation of development projects
- History of conference presentations and/or publications in the economic growth sector
- Familiarity with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Fluency in English and another relevant language (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Russian).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree + Fifteen years of relevant experience, or Master's Degree + Twelve years of relevant experience, or PhD + Ten years of relevant experience
