Title: Fisheries Management Analyst - FWC - FTE

Salary: $52,530 annually + benefits; Must be willing to travel up to 40% of time; some overtime hours including weekends, weeknights and holidays may be required.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in marine resources or closely related field and minimum of two years of experience is required.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

• Gathers, synthesizes, and manages fisheries dependent and independent data necessary to characterize and assess the status of Florida fisheries. Conducts analyses of fisheries dependent and independent data relative to the management of Florida's fisheries.
• Develops and presents technical papers on management of various Florida fisheries to guide and support the Commission's rulemaking process. Participates in rulemaking process to help Commission build a record in support of their decisions. Drafts supporting documents in coordination with legal staff.
• Coordinates stock assessment activity with Staff scientists of other agencies and reviews, critiques stock assessments and regulations of other agencies. Provides advice to Commission on appropriate responses.
• Responds to public inquiries regarding marine fisheries issues, including but not limited to life history, license requirements, rules and regulations.
• Coordinates with other state and federal agencies, universities, private marine-related institutions, and other groups or organizations with an interest in marine fisheries resources.
• Coordinates research projects that are relevant to fisheries management decisions.
• Assists in development of policy, both implicit and explicit, relating to the management of fisheries resources based on the best available scientific information for the Commission and regional federal fishery management council(s).
• Provides support to Section leader, Deputy Director and Division director on special assignments as assigned. Performs other related work as required.
• Conducts public workshops, Advisory Board/Workgroup meetings, and other information gathering meetings on issues relating to Florida's marine fisheries.
• Coordinates with FWC staff interacting with other federal fish management councils or interstate commissions.
• Serves as a subject matter expert about federal fishery management plans or proposals and Endangered Species Act listing proposals affecting Florida's fisheries.
• Coordinates with commercial and recreational fishers and other stakeholders to identify and find solutions to state and federal fisheries management issues.

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general biological principles and knowledge of marine fisheries management issues and topics;

Effective verbal and writing skills, ability to use good judgment in decision-making, planning skills, ability to synthesize highly technical information for public dissemination;

Ability to understand, evaluate, analyze and organize marine resource (especially fisheries) information into a logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials and for coherent presentations to a variety of audiences;

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments;

Ability to conduct fact finding research and utilize problem solving techniques;

Ability to review and interpret fisheries regulations.

Position synthesizes technical fisheries assessment information in support of the agency's marine fisheries rule making process.

Reviews and interprets stock assessments and fisheries regulations, evaluates life history and fisheries-dependent and independent data and develops reports and presentations on marine fishery issues;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people;

Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

Knowledge of computer software including Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Florida Driver's license required.
