ERM is seeking a motivated Staff Environmental Scientist/Engineer, who is interested in participating on a variety of projects covering a wide spectrum of ERM's services including engineering, compliance, and project management, to join our consulting firm based in our Charleston, WV office.

In this role, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on environmental engineering and EHS compliance related projects. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging environmental projects for large industrial and global clients.   • Prepare plans, permits, and reports for hazardous waste, storm water, NPDES, and wastewater programs.
  • Perform environmental compliance work including assessment and desktop work (e.g., calculations, inventory analysis, and follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations).
  • Assist with the development of project plans and schedules; and assist with the development of project management reporting, such as monthly progress reports.
  • Assist clients with field services such as site reconnaissance, surveys, storm water inspections, and soil and groundwater sampling.
  • Communicate with clients, including requesting project information, answering regulatory questions, and providing recommendations.
  • Prepare environmental permit applications and plans such as erosion control plans, storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), spill prevention, control, and countermeasures (SPCC) plans, and health and safety plans (HASPs) that comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
  • Direct involvement in technical and engineering solutions which add value to key and global clients.
  • Perform multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Support ERM Partners-in-Charge and Project Managers to effectively manage projects.

  • BS in environmental science, engineering, or related discipline (chemistry, biology, physics, geospatial information systems, etc.) with strong desire to do environmental work, and with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
  • Masters or Doctorate in environmental field is a plus.
  • Recent graduate to 3 years of relevant environmental experience or professional internships.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite software (Excel, Word and/or PowerPoint experience is a plus).
  • Desire to learn AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software.
  • Experience conducting or desire to learn desktop and online studies as well as research on a wide variety of natural resource or resource planning topics, Geographic Information System, map interpretation (National Wetland Inventory, U.S. Geological Survey, aerial photography).
  • Ability to work effectively in the field during cold and hot weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
