Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Our client, a cutting-edge leader in manufacturing, is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Manager. This is a long term, benefits-eligible role that has the opportunity to transition to direct hire. This individual will be responsible for overseeing organizational compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations; ensuring that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times; keeping abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization; and providing daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.

Job Responsibilities:

Model core values to safety, quality, and customer service.
Provide EHS Leadership and support to US facilities with a monthly visit.
Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss; and auditing the plan to ensure its effectiveness.
Develop and manage the occupational safety and health program.
Formulate written policy and program guidance.
Communicate with and/or train employees to the extent appropriate to achieve understanding and compliance.
Conduct weekly new hire orientation.
Conduct safety meetings with union and area managers.
Conduct scheduled EHS audits.
Complete EHS metrics.
Develop and manage the environmental compliance program to insure adherence to EPA guidelines.
Manage Workers' Compensation and the OSHA 300 Log.
Participate in incident investigation and set corrective actions.
Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal, storm water discharge, industrial hygiene, permitting, emergency response and site remediation, and SARA Title III reporting with members of the manufacturing staff.
Serve as internal consultant and project manager for a wide range of Human Resources issues such as safety, environmental, health, employee recognition, legal issues, security, training, and others as assigned by the Director.
Overall management of transitional work program, new procedures, quarterly meetings, and individual employee plan coordination.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (preferably in environmental health and safety).
Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
5 years or more experience working in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment required.
5 years or more experience managing environmental programs (air, water, waste).

Desired Qualifications:

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Higher.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Able to work in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations.
Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
Strong interpersonal skills and must be able to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and externally with regulatory agencies and local response organizations.
Able to solve a variety of complex problems in the absence of technical guidelines or precedents. Work involves analysis and requires judgment. Plans programs and projects or resolves management problems. Numerous decisions are involved, and the choices of action are many.
Experience in developing and delivering training presentations.
Manage, through other supervisors, work assignments and performance for employees in several work units.
Proficient user in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
