Lab Director- Microbiology

Description
Leads the R&D Microbiology lab in Melville. Responsible for safety, quality, and Data Integrity within the lab. Oversight over all microbiological tests and procedures on cosmetic raw materials, bulk, and finished goods to ensure compliance with company, industry and government guidelines/regulations. Continuing to innovate and bring in new preservatives and test methods/applications.
Engaged Leadership - Trains, develops and improves performance of employees in Melville lab via coaching, on-going feedback and assignment matching. Makes recommendations for hiring, termination, evaluation, development, and advancement. Actively mentors staff. 30%
Maintaining and updating the budget. Keeping track of expenses and PO's. Defining future capital expenditure in the Melville lab. 10%
Creative thinking and problem solving to address gaps. Continual auditing of the lab for gaps and finding ways to fix the gaps while bringing the team in to understand and help fix the gaps. Working with the quality labs to trouble shoot and fix test method and specification issues. 30%
Independently making decisions to maintain/improve Safety, Quality, GMPs and Data Integrity in the lab. Keep management informed of any gaps in Safety, Quality, GMPs or Data Integrity. Escalating risk based decisions that have impact to product quality or safety. 25%
Continually work to improve lab performance, safety, quality, and innovation. 15%
Must have comprehensive technical knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Preservatives
- Preservative Efficacy Testing
- Neutralization
- Validation
- Antimicrobial Package Testing
- Microbial Risk Assessment
Technical Writing (SOPs, Test Methods, Protocols, Reports)
Qualifications
- Great communication skills
- Strong technical and interpersonal skills
Good project management skills
Bachelors (Masters preferred) in Microbiology or Biology
