Job Description Summary
The Microbiology Lab at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital is seeking a full-time microbiology technician, with veterinary clinical diagnostic experience, to perform routine bacterial and fungal culture, microbial identification, antibiotic susceptibility testing, molecular testing/PCR and serology assays. May be required to work holidays and weekends. Must also be willing to cross train in the parasitology lab.
Job Description
Primary responsibility includes microorganism identification using a combination of bench work and automated biochemical identification systems: specifically, the Vitek 2 and Sensititre ARIS systems. The successful candidate will also perform serology and molecular diagnostic testing; cross train to support the parasitology lab; receive, accession, result and report specimens using the Orchard Harvest Laboratory Information System; prepare specimens for submission to external reference laboratories; complete routine laboratory maintenance and quality assurance/control; prepare various reagents and media.
In addition, the candidate will maintain laboratory equipment, records and inventory, operate an autoclave, order lab media and supplies, answer the telephone, perform clerical duties and provide general information and support to both internal and external clients. Candidate will need to demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and must be comfortable interacting with veterinarians, clinical researchers, hospital staff and students alike.
Qualifications
An Associates required, Bachelor's strongly preferred in Microbiology or a related discipline. Experience working in a clinical microbiology laboratory is preferred. Veterinary microbiology experience is also preferred. Must have computer data entry and basic word processing skills.
