Brief Description:
The time is right to join Suburban Consulting Engineers! Our Environmental Team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Environmental Scientist / Project Manager to provide technical expertise and project and team management for a diverse client base on a variety of utility and municipal infrastructure projects within the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania geographic region.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in wetland biology and performing wetland delineations, Section 404 or similar permitting, coastal wetlands, waterfront development, CAFRA, FHA, aquatic and threatened/endangered species assessments, and providing natural resource consulting services on federal, state, and local utility and municipal infrastructure projects.
Examples of work/duties:
• Managing and mentoring a team of mid-level and junior staff conducting field work and executing day to day activities of projects.
• Performing project management duties (scope, schedule & budget) to include client management, resource management, managing financial and other project records, and project invoicing and collections.
• Serving as technical lead for projects requiring environmental planning, analysis, compliance, permitting and approvals.
- Planning and performance of wetland delineations and preparation of Letters of Interpretation, permit applications and reports.
- Preparation of NJDEP General and Individual wetland permit packages, and transition area waivers.
- Preparation of Coastal, Dredging and Waterfront development permitting and compliance plans (CAFRA).
- Performance of habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species.
- Performs Ecological Evaluations, Ecological Risk Assessments and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
• Leading environmental analyses for multi-discipline design projects for a variety of disciplines (i.e., municipal/land development, gas/utility, water/wastewater).
• Acting as a liaison with various other internal design disciplines, subconsultants, subcontractors, and/or regulatory agencies.
• Business development opportunities within existing client base and to expand our client base.

Requirements (education, licensing, certifications, etc.):
• A Bachelor's Degree in environmental or physical science, engineering, ecology, or related field. A Master's Degree is desired but no required.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience demonstrating increased responsibility in the AEC industry, with minimum of 5 years project management experience.
• Professional Certification(s) including Professional Wetlands Scientist (PWS), CEP, PE, AICP, PMP, OSHA 40-hour are desirable but not required.
• Wetland delineation training (40-hour) certification is desirable.
• Significant knowledge of applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations.
• Must have experience providing consulting support on wetland delineation and permitting projects.
• Must have the demonstrated ability to conduct field work and write quality reports with a desire to provide training and mentorship to junior- to mid-level team members.
• Must possess excellent communication, teamwork, analytical, organizational, technical writing, and client service skills.
• Potential for occasional out of state travel.
