Candidate Specification
  • Candidates must have Environmental Science background or working towards earning a Degree in related science field
  • Interest in Environmental field performing various tasks that may include:
  • Environmental and Stormwater Inspections on pipeline rights-of-way or land development sites
  • Water quality sampling and open channel flow measurements
  • Wetland/Stream Delineations and Environmental Assessments
  • GPS Surveys (Must at a minimum understand the basic principles of GIS and a working knowledge of GPS instruments, their use, and limitations)
  • Core logging and soils identification using relevant methods
  • Subsidence Monitoring tasks associated with longwall mining
  • Must have current certification or attend training to obtain current MSHA 30 CFR 46 or 48 Health and Safety Certification
  • Requires a valid Driver's License and passing a DMV check
  • Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and continuous random drug testing
  • Possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Highly Proficient with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • CESSWI and CPESC certifications a plus
  • Work on project sites that may be located in various cities and states

Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking an entry or mid-level full-time environmental scientist to join our environmental team in our Morgantown, WV and Pittsburgh, PA office. Job Duties may include:
  • Gathering data and other associated environmental tasks such as wetland delineations, benthic analysis, habitat assessments, water sampling, etc.
  • Making visual assessments about field conditions and communicating (verbal and written) effectively.
  • Paying attention to site safety, personal safety and following all safety rules and procedures at each site.
  • Safely stooping, lifting, crawling, climbing, and walking as necessary to navigate uneven terrain and obstacles on active construction/sampling sites.
  • Hiking long distances in wooded areas and Right-of-Ways.
  • Working outside in all weather conditions.
  • Monitoring facility PLC systems for changes to pumps and other equipment.
  • Working independently with significant attention to detail.
  • Performing Environmental and Stormwater Inspections
  • Utilizing GPS equipment proficiently to collect data during field observations and site inspections
  • Working limited hours on weekends
  • Daily travel to projects sites
