Job Description
Scismic is supporting the growth of an early stage biotechnology company dedicated to the discovery and development of small molecules stabilizing the interaction between adaptor proteins and their disease-promoting client proteins.

We are in search of a Scientist. The role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and reports to the Director of Cancer Biology.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will have an integral role in the planning and conduct of molecular cell biology experiments that support the company's drug discovery efforts.

This is an opportunity for a creative cancer biologist to lead the selection and characterization of new drug targets and to generate the therapeutic hypotheses underlying each new project. The successful candidate will draw on the scientific literature to assess these targets, and design and conduct mechanistic cellular experiments to evaluate target suitability for stabilization to the adaptor proteins.

The scientist will also participate in designing and developing cellular assays to query the mechanism of action of new drug candidates with unprecedented pharmacology. This may include the development of new cell lines, novel cell assay formats, and the application of large scale proteomics to investigate the phosphoproteome regulated by 14-3-3.

We are a highly interactive and collaborative company, working seamlessly across our sites in the Bay Area and overseas. The successful scientist candidate will be collaborative and team-oriented, proactively working with colleagues on strategy, design and conduct of experimental series. They must have excellent communication skills, maintain clear and up-to-date experimental records, and regularly present data to colleagues. The role may provide an opportunity to train and /or supervise Research Associates, interns, and other laboratory personnel.

Scientist applicants should have the following qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or a related field
  • Minimum 2-5 years' relevant post-doctoral research experience in the field of cancer research
  • Strong expertise in developing cancer cell functional assays is required
  • Experience with SILAC or TMT quantitative proteomics, or Post-translational modification (PTM) specific mass spectrometry is desired
  • Experience with cell and molecular biology assay technologies including CRISPR, RNAi, ELISA, Western blotting, qRT-PCR, RNA-seq a plus
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and manage time efficiently
  • Flexibility within a fast-moving start up environment
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
