World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, seeks a Senior Program Officer, Nature Metrics.

The Senior Program Officer (SPO) will assist with the planning, managing, coordinating, implementing and communicating Nature Measurement Framework efforts with one of WWF's largest strategic corporate partnerships. The role will coordinate across goal teams (including Freshwater & Food, Forest, Oceans, Private Sector Engagement) and WWF Network as needed to provide project support, relying heavily on a working knowledge of environmental science, conservation interventions, planetary boundaries, various environmental accounting methodologies and spatial data expertise.

The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for supporting senior staff on projects including drafting documents and guidance, attending conference calls, conducting literature searches, spatial data analysis, method development and calculations, and research support on longer term research projects.

The SPO will engage with various experts both within and outside WWF to stay up to speed on the latest analysis, tools and approaches and to engage with key platforms, forums and partners to influence and affect change in the metrics dialogue related to sustainability of landscapes, seascapes, and food systems. Management, analysis and synthesis of large data sets, to forecast threats and spot trends will be a component of this work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Senior Staff on our engagement with nature measurement efforts with corporate partners and the Science-Based Targets Network more broadly. Partner with other NGOs through these projects and focus on technical deliverables, including linking spatial and supply chain data.
  • Provide project support to staff on current and emerging nature measurement projects. This will rely heavily on a working knowledge of environmental science, conservation interventions, planetary boundaries, various biodiversity, land, freshwater and ocean accounting methodologies and tools, and spatial data expertise.
  • Provide project support to senior staff on research projects including literature searches, review and writing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Science/Management, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Carbon Accounting, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, Business, Industrial Ecology or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years experience in associated field, is required
  • A master's degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Science/Management, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Carbon Accounting, Natural Resource Management Engineering, Business, Industrial Ecology or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years experience in associated field, is preferred.
  • Experience working with the private sector. Knowledge of market-based approaches to solving environmental challenges is critical.
  • Three years specific experience working on metrics, climate mitigation, technical standard.
  • A good technical knowledge on Science Based Targets (both GHG and nature) including metrics and measurement
  • Knowledge of carbon accounting, life cycle assessment, natural capital accounting, climate change, remote sensing, GIS, agriculture, forestry, freshwater, supply chain dynamics, trade data analysis and database development, is preferred.
  • A good understanding of climate mitigation scenarios
  • Ability to bridge the gap between technical standards, business engagement and advocacy
  • Ability to provide day to day expertise on SBTs across climate and nature and speak to multiple technical and non-technical audiences
  • Perfect command of the English language. Any other language/s an asset.
  • Resourceful self-starter, excellent research, writing and analytical skills, strong project management and interpersonal/collaboration skills are required. Demonstrated business acumen.
