The Carver College of Medicine Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is seeking a Research Assistant to execute procedures in a gene therapy research laboratory for animal disease model development. Perform select bioassays required for the care of the diseased animals, perform PCR and other genotyping assays, record and consolidate data. Duties Include: * Research * Execute procedures in a gene therapy research laboratory for animal disease model development. Perform select bioassays required for the care of the diseased animals, perform PCR and other genotyping assays, record and consolidate data * Conduct Experiments * Perform PCR and other genotyping techniques * Execute basic procedures in experimental animals, including harvesting tissues, blood, DNA, RNA and proteins * Perform enzymatic assays; CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene targeting; protein immunoassays; Western and Southern blotting * Prepare data for analysis and assist in research and writing for the publication of manuscripts * Facilities and Equipment Management * Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment * Supervision/Staffing * Supervision is received from senior research staff * Functional supervision may be exercised over support staff and students * Collaboration and Embracing Diversity * Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity * Positive Impact/Achieving Results * Ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs * Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results * Service Excellence/Customer Focus * Ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner * Ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers Our mission is to inspire and educate world class health care providers and scientists for the people of Iowa and our global community.
