Company Overview

At CRISPR Therapeutics, we are focused on developing transformative gene-based medicines for serious human diseases. We are rapidly translating our specific, efficient and versatile CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing platform into therapies to treat hemoglobinopathies, cancer, diabetes and other diseases. Our multi-disciplinary team of world-class researchers and drug developers works every day to translate our CRISPR/Cas9 technology into breakthrough human therapeutics. Our lead program targeting the blood diseases β-thalassemia and sickle cell disease has entered clinical testing, and our immuno-oncology programs, focused on CRISPR/Cas9-edited allogeneic CAR-T cell therapies, have the potential to deliver a new generation of cancer therapies to patients.

Job Summary

We seek a motivated Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Scientist with strong collaboration and communication skills to join the Genomics and Computational Biology team at CRISPR therapeutics. A scientist in this role will lead genomics activities for multiple therapeutic programs in close collaboration with wet-lab research groups. The role also provides opportunities to develop exploratory high-throughput synthetic biology tools focused on improving our gene-editing platform.

Responsibilities
  • Lead genomics activities for therapeutic programs by providing bioinformatics support, designing genome-scale experiments, analyzing NGS data, and authoring regulatory documents
  • Design and implement computational biology pipelines and algorithms in collaboration with other computational biology scientists and bioinformatics engineers to support therapeutic development and research activities
  • Develop NGS-based high-throughput assays to support platform research activities
  • Communicate scientifically rigorous findings via oral and written communications, visualizations, and presentations

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in quantitative or basic science (computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, genetics, chemistry, physics, mathematics preferred)
  • Experience in developing computational pipelines to analyze DNA and RNA high-throughput sequencing data and usage of common bioinformatics tools (e.g. bwa, BEDtools, GATK, IGV)
  • Demonstrated ability to design and analyze quantitative ‘omics or synthetic biology experiments in a hypothesis-driven research environment
  • Proficiency with Python and/or R is essential; familiarity with other languages such as C++ and MATLAB is also helpful
  • Ability to work independently and successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues, and balance competing priorities effectively

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with analysis of ‘omics data to understand biological relevance and disease mechanisms
  • Experience working in close collaboration with cell/molecular biologists and performing computational analyses to inform experimental design to answer therapeutic or research questions
  • Proficiency with handling large-scale genomic data in a Linux and/or cloud environment (e.g. AWS, DNAnexus)
  • Proficiency with statistical methods and/or machine learning
  • Familiarity with molecular research techniques (qPCR, ddPCR, NGS library prep, molecular cloning) and gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9)
  • A high degree of energy, accuracy, attention to detail, and a passion for creating transformative gene-based medicines for patients with serious diseases
  • Experience working in fast-paced team environments (industry experience is a plus)
