ECS is seeking a Research Associate to work Remote .

Job Description:
The purpose of this work is to collect cost earnings data from vessel owners who own vessels and a West Coast limited entry groundfish permit with a fixed gear endorsement during 2019-2020. These data will be used to estimate economic impacts using the Northwest Fisheries Science Center's (NWFSC) IO-PAC model, provide performance measures for the primary sablefish catch shares fishery, estimate cost impact of alternative harvest levels in the Pacific Fisheries Management Council's (PFMC) Groundfish Spex process, and meet any other needs requiring information on the cost of operating a catcher vessel in the West Coast limited entry groundfish fixed gear fishery. The survey population is all vessel owners who operated a vessel (i) with a limited entry groundfish fixed gear permit during 2019-2020, (ii) did not patriate in the groundfish trawl fishery during 2019-2020, and (iii) landed at least $1,000 of fish on the West Coast during 2019-2020. Those vessel owners who also operated in the groundfish trawl fishery are required to complete the mandatory EDC questionnaire from the survey population for this survey, as the information provided on the EDC form is similar to the data collected by this survey.

Duties:
  • Establish contact with vessel owners that participated in the limited entry groundfish fishery to schedule phone interviews with interviewers.
  • Manage the logistical aspect of interviewers.
  • Responsibilities include keep accurate and organized written records, entering survey data into Excel, and providing accurate, organized, and complete summary notes and data.

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Less than two years' experience in logistics requirements analysis.
  • Able to professionally communicate with commercial fishermen.
  • Basic understanding of sampling methods and statistics.
  • Possesses great organizational skills.
