The X-ray Science Division (XSD) of Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher who will perform trace element studies in biology and materials with hard x-ray fluorescence microscopy and tomography as well as associated instrument development. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team including physicists, chemists, biologists and computer scientists conducting nanoscale elemental imaging and spectroscopy using the APS Bionanoprobe. The candidate will primarily be responsible for developing the user program of the Bionanoprobe with the focus on soft matters including biological and biomedical materials. The candidate will work together with collaborators from both Argonne and other institutes to design and carry out beamline experiments. The candidate is also expected to seek other research opportunities and initiate new collaborations on the applications of nanoscale x-ray fluorescence microscopy and tomography. Results of research and development will be reported in appropriate forms: publications in refereed journals and oral presentations at meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in physics, materials science, engineering, or related disciplines;
- Comprehensive knowledge in at least two of the following fields: x-ray physics, x-ray fluorescence microscopy, x-ray nanoprobe, cryogenic microscopy;
- Considerable experience with synchrotron facilities and x-ray nanoprobe.
- Strong diagnostics skills;
- Considerable experience with programming and software tools such as python and git;
- Experience with automation, control, and instrument infrastructure is a plus;
- Knowledge of biology, chemistry is a plus;
- Demonstrated experience working successfully as part of a team in a collaborative and multidisciplinary scientific environment;
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators and ability to work in a team environment.
