Description:
We are seeking a biologist with extensive experience working with soybean or other plants in a lab and greenhouse/growth chamber setting. Applicants should have a degree in Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Molecular Biology or other related field with two plus years of laboratory experience (MS candidates). Candidate will be expected to routinely handle the growth and maintenance of plants in GH/growth chamber and assist in the design and supervised or independent execution of experiments for research purposes. This position requires a highly motivated and results-oriented team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and scientific depth.
Desired Skills/Experience:
• Hands-on experience with greenhouse/growth chamber plant care.
• Familiarity with Plant physiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, and genomics.
• Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office, Excel, database, data analysis software and basic bioinformatics tools.
• Attention to details, strong experimental design, data analysis and interpretation skills, strong ability to work in a team setting, and strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
• Laboratory research experience is a plus.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
The day to day in this role is a lot of manual labor including watering plants, cleaning growth chambers, carrying out treatments whether physical treatment or chemical, making fertilizer, handling small flowers and taking notes over progress of the plants. data recording, entering, error checks and analysis. They will not start out doing this but is an eventual expectation.
- The exciting part of this role is that the current experiments we are working on will go straight to production and affect farmers in the field. Our work is new and has the potential to cause an immediate effect for the company and eventual effects for the customers. The candidate also has room to grow and gain more research experience and share possible ideas for experimentation.
- This person will most often work with a fellow contractor and the leading scientist of our soybean team every day.
- This role was created because the team wishes to expand the number of experiments.
- The team allows members work closely with each other and discuss changes quickly and allows for a relaxed exchange of ideas and planning.
- MUST HAVES: Attention to details, organization skills, planning skills, flexibility, biology, hand dexterity, positive attitude.
- Nice to Haves: Curiosity, big-picture perspective, mental agility, knowledge of plant physiology and morphology.
- Could be extended based on performance and business needs.
- The interview will include the lead scientists and the experienced contractor. It will be face to face and the interviewee will be asked a series of questions as well as asked to perform some tests for hand dexterity. A tour of some of the growth chambers may also take place.
- Master of Science preferably in Horticulture, Plant Science/Botany or Biology, Plant Molecular Biology or other related field.
