JOB SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Biotechnology Research Leader (Biologist V) to provide technical leadership for ongoing projects and to drive new capability growth throughout the Battelle enterprise. Specifically, the successful candidate will lead new market-focused growth in Applied Biotechnology, including support in developing the strategic and business focus within Public Health, Life Sciences, and National Security markets. This opportunity is located in Aberdeen, MD with flexible Maryland State remote work options.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Health Business Unit, as a component of Battelle's Contract Research Organization, is responsible for delivering science and technology services to our US Government and commercial customers and to support Battelle's mission for driving new science to affect broad societal benefit. The Biotechnology Research Leader is responsible for building and communicating the leading edge of our science base with the goals of capturing new business and creating a broad and sustained impact. Balancing technical depth with business leadership, the successful candidate will work with Battelle support services to identify target market(s) and user requirements; assessing market fit and accessibility; and promoting the development of new offerings, go to market plans, and new business contracts and deal flows.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
- Doctorate degree or equivalent, plus 10 years of directly relevant experience exploring markets, leading applied science and technology (S&T), driving teams and offerings to successful business outcomes
- At least 5 years experience in new bioactives discovery, with specific demonstrated experience in developing and scaling methods for microbial community bioprospecting
- At least 10 years experience managing large (>$50Million) federal contracts for translational biological (Vaccine or Therapeutics) product development efforts
- In depth knowledge and experience with infectious and chronic disease genetics, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology, as evidenced by recent high impact publications and other scientific thought leadership examples
- Demonstrated successful experience fundraising for tech-focused product concepts throughout the venture ecosystem
- Proven record of having successful vaccine/therapeutic drug development with training in cGxP
- Demonstrated successful experience negotiating, building, and managing S&T-based alliances and other joint ventures, specifically for biologics products and enabling technologies
- Intrapreneurial track record for identifying and generating new research areas, collaborations, and IP with existing enterprise assets to expand and grow our commercial opportunities in commercial biotech and pharma.
- Ability to effectively work with teams remotely, and in a hybrid fashion from multiple locations to include Battelle offices, client sites, and home offices across multiple time zones, as needed.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including risk, quality, and financial performance.
- US citizen.
- Ability to obtain future security clearance.
