Job Description
Our Research Scientists are our Inventors. We identify and target steps in disease mechanisms or pathways that could be inhibited or enhanced. Our goal is to isolate a compound that is effective against a disease target. Using innovative thinking, state-of-the-art facilities and robust scientific methodology we collaborate to discover the next medical breakthrough.
The Cellular Pharmacology group at the department of Quantitative Biosciences is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Scientist with a strong background in cell signaling and vitro models of inflammation and oncology to join our Quantitative Biosciences Department at our Research & Development Division in Boston. The successful candidate will play an essential role in developing assays in cellular context for screening and translational relevance. The alignment of these screening and translational assays with biochemical, ex-vivo and in-vivo approaches will greatly enhance our capabilities in the discovery of innovative therapeutics.
Responsibilities:
- Working collaboratively with members of department and multi-functional drug discovery project teams, the successful candidate will support cellular aspects of in vitro pharmacology efforts against a variety of targets across diverse therapeutic areas.
- This individual will be expected to design and execute multiple cell based assays, to implement assay automation, new technologies and rigorous data analysis techniques in order to identify lead molecules, evaluate the structure-activity relationships and to characterize the mechanisms of action.
- Identify and apply emerging innovative methodologies to the development of advanced in vitro models in support of research projects targeting inflammation, autoimmune indications, and oncology.
- Establish novel translational in vitro approaches that represent human disease pathology to answer cellular signaling and mechanistic questions.
- Conduct high quality in vitro studies to evaluate novel targets and screen multi-modality drug candidates to establish translational relationships in multiple disease indications.
- Function and communicate effectively in a highly productive and multi-disciplinary environment.
Experience:
- Hands-on knowledge in developing robust in vitro models with engineered and primary cell lines for conducting studies to evaluate targets or screening in immunology/cancer biology.
- Experience in primary immune cell isolation and stimulation, proliferation and apoptosis assays, immunoassay techniques/platforms (e.g. Western, ELISA, Mesoscale), as well as QRT-PCR. A greater understanding in employing pharmacological tools and vision of developing biomarker assays of translational importance is highly desirable.
- Expertise with flow cytometry, developing in vitro assays to investigate immune function and possess a deep knowledge of technologies commonly used to assess immune endpoints.
- Basic understanding of routine molecular biology, protein chemistry, imaging and automation skills
- Candidate should be a strong team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and with a demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and excel in a cross-functional team.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements:
- B.S./B.A. degree with a minimum 7 years of industry experience; or an M.S. degree with 4 years of industry experience; or a PhD in immunology, oncology, pharmacology or related field with a minimum of 3 years post-doctoral experience
