This role serves as a key microbial physiologist within our DSM Bioprocess Development site in Columbia, MD. The position aligns within our Applied Microbial Physiology team with a focus on multi-omics and fermentation and requires cross-functional collaboration across many groups including fermentation, analytical science, strain improvement, and bioinformatics. Your challenge will be to design, execute and interpret omics studies to accelerate bioprocess optimization.

What we look for in you:
- Ph.D. (or Master with 4 years industrial experience) in biotechnology, fermentation technology, systems biology, bioinformatics, metabolic engineering or a related discipline.
- Experienced in design, execution, interpretation and visualization of (multi-) omics experiments for the production of metabolites (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and genomics).
- Sound knowledge in applied cellular physiology, metabolism and fermentation processes.
- Hands-on experience with fermentation processes.
- Experienced in building kinetic models to describe fermentation processes and apply these models to optimize process performance in Design-Build-Test-Learn cycles is considered an advantage.
- Computational experience in R, Python, Matlab, JMP, Spotfire or other mathematical software packages is a plus.
- Industrial experience is considered a plus.
- Strong desire and proven ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Problem-solving skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity drive your work.
- Intra-personal and strong communication skillsets characterize your identity
What we like to see in your experience:
- PHD or Masters with 4 years of experience
- Understanding of microbial physiology and experience with analyzing omics data
- Connectivity and experience with hands-on fermentations
- Experienced with analytical software (python, R) to analyze omics data
