OVERVIEW:
The scientist will use broad knowledge of microbiological sciences and genetics to improve industrial Streptomyces strains. Will also develop a deeper understanding of natural product biosynthesis during fermentation of various Streptomyces species.Note: This position is expected to last 12 months.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify process improvement opportunities through data collection, mining, observation, and technical report writing in collaboration with senior scientists and techniciansEnsure all experiments are well designed and documented with clear objectivesTechnically design and execute genetic engineering experimentsAseptically work with different bacteriaManage small-scale fermentation and additional laboratory projects, as requiredResponsible for mentoring, training and scientific development of junior scientist and technicians through sharing best practices on laboratory operations, reviewing technical data and informationAccurately document work in electronic notebook and/or batch recordsWrite and present technical summaries in reports and at department technical meetings and reviewsCollaborate technically with scientist in supported manufacturing areas sharing key learnings
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related major AND 5+ years POST academic experience in microbiology or genetic engineering OR MS in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related major AND 5+ years academic experience in microbiology or genetic engineeringPrevious laboratory experience including: PCR, primer desing cloning, restriction digestion, DNA isolation, microscope, bacterial culturing in liquid and on solid media, etcCandidates must have experience in experiment designCandidates must demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skillsTechnically inquisitive, attentive to detail and must exhibit good problem solving skillsHigh learning agility, able to multitask, and able to prioritize activitiesAble to work independently and collaboratively with othersDemonstrated strong communication skills, both oral and writtenDemonstrated problem solving abilitiesThe candidate should be acquainted with basic statistics and be proficient with the use of Microsoft software productsIND1
