TITLE: MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST- TECHNICAL COORDINATOR JOB OVERVIEW: In addition to performing the functions of a Medical Technologist, this level is responsible for administering the quality control program and ensures that procedures/methods are appropriate and technically accurate in the designated departments in the lab. Coordinates team efforts to resolve technical and operational issues, ensuring that schedule time frames are met, advising management of problem areas, and is the technical resource for their areas. AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Laboratory HOURS OF WORK: Sunday thru Saturday as assigned RESPONSIBLE TO: Laboratory Manager PREREQUISITES: * Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification from ASCP or NCA. 2. Minimum 5 years experience as a technologist in specific laboratory discipline with progressive increases in responsibility. 3. Must provide proof of college transcripts. QUALIFICATIONS: Exceptional communication skills in working with co-workers and clients. Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently in a diverse population. Demonstrate good decision-making and problem-solving skills. Expertise in quality control, calibration, linearity, instrument operation/troubleshooting. Flexibility, adaptability and the balance to keep organized and positive in a climate of constant change. Ability to prioritize workload and assist co-workers as needed to meet established lab turn around times. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES * Generic Job Functions: See Generic Job Description for Clinical Partner * Unique Job Functions: * Performs all STAT and routine clinical testing according to established standards and completes analysis within established time frames 90% of the time. * Monitors and maintains a comprehensive Quality Control program for the department. and takes appropriate corrective action when there is a variance in QC. * Coordinates proficiency testing such as CAP surveys and ensures they are submitted in a timely manner. * Monitors operating efficiency of equipment and instruments, recognizes problems and takes appropriate corrective action. * Reviews and evaluates lab reports for clarity, accuracy, timeliness. * Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take necessary corrective action according to established protocols. * Ensures procedures and methods are appropriate and technically accurate, modifies existing procedures or introduces new procedures as needed. * Ensures that all reagents and supplies are ordered and received according to established standards. * Participates in specimen procurement, specimen handling and specimen processing. * Coordinate and participate in the orientation and training of students and new employees. * Directs and coordinates the daily activities of personnel to ensure staff schedule provides service that meets the established standards. * Coordinates team efforts to resolve technical and operational problems. * Provides input on staff performance and appraisal. * Ensures that quality control and preventive maintenance is performed and documented. * Maintains accountability for administrative knowledge of all Lab sections. * Effectively leads and coaches staff to work effectively as a team and empower team members to make decisions without direct and continuous input. Ensures compliance of the staff with regulatory and safety requirements. Coordinate and Assist with projects such as Point of Care and CAP regulatory requirements as needed. Assists in the budget process and submits capital equipment requests Recommends and evaluates new technology. C.
