Job Description
The systems biology team at PNNL is a diverse multi-disciplinary group that works with scientists across the computational biology group and throughout the lab to identify novel algorithmic approaches to biological and technological challenges. Currently our work spans diverse biological area such as microbiology, cancer biology, toxicology, and rational drug design. The group is heavily interdisciplinary with many ongoing projects within and outside of the lab.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to help identify drug candidates through the development of computational algorithms aimed at integrating high throughput data (transcriptomics, proteomics) with functional drug screening data to improve patient outcomes in cancer and rare disease. This candidate should have a strong algorithmic background as well as knowledge of machine learning approaches and high throughput biological assays. We work closely with clinical collaborators and focus on tangible scientific problems with testable hypotheses.
This postdoc will be responsible for interacting with scientists in the group as well as collaborators, helping meet project requirements, developing code to implement new ideas, and applying appropriate statistical and/or bioinformatic approaches to problems defined by the projects. They will also be expected to assist in the writing of manuscripts that describe project work/results and have excellent communication skills.
Desired candidates have a strong programming background and are familiar with the basics of data manipulation as well as machine learning and/or statistical approaches to analyze high throughput data.
Qualifications, Skills, and/or Training Necessary for Position:
Python or R programming
Machine learning background
Basic understanding of statistics
Code versioning tools
Strong communication skills
Experience leading research projects
Basic understanding of biology
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or applied math.
