Job Details Our Aquaculture Directorate has recently expanded to recognise the breadth of work required to grow sustainable aquaculture and its benefits to Māori, communities and our regional economies.

The Aquaculture Directorate consists of two newly formed teams. These teams work closely together to deliver our work programme:

  • The Aquaculture Strategy and Development team is responsible for implementing the Government's Aquaculture Strategy to build a Sustainable, Productive, Resilient and Inclusive industry; and delivering stewardship of sustainable aquaculture development.
  • The Aquaculture Settlement and Operational Policy team is responsible for partnering with iwi to maximise the benefits from the Crown's aquaculture settlement; and crafting and inputting into legislation (including resource management system reform), regulations and regional coastal plans to efficiently manage and improve the sector.

We are looking for up to four Aquaculture Analysts/Senior Aquaculture Analysts to join our directorate, with vacancies across both teams. These teams are primarily based in Nelson or Wellington, but we will consider applicants based in key aquaculture growing regions where MPI has a regional office. Likewise, both full and part time applications will be considered. Please state in your application your preferences on these matters.

About the roles - Kōrero mō te tūranga

Both teams' work involves critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, effective communication, and relationship building. Those interested in the Strategy and Development team will in particular be able to think strategically and work well with people to advance their ideas. Those interested in the Settlement and Operational Policy team will have experience working with our Treaty Partners, and/or experience with regulatory frameworks and will excel at analytical thinking.

This is a national position and can be based out of several locations across the country including: Bay of Plenty, Nelson, Northland, Southland and Wellington. Requirements Skills and Experience - Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako

We will consider candidates with a range of backgrounds and qualifications, including but not limited to: resource management, planning, science, law, business administration and economics. Applicants should also have:
  • Proven ability to build relationships, find common ground and reach agreements, and engage effectively with a range of people, including our Treaty partners
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to quickly identify and clearly define an issue and how to respond appropriately
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects or pieces of work at the same time and respond to changing circumstances.
