Job Description Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center has the primary role of developing and delivering a program that provides high quality informal and outdoor educational science experiences for students and the community.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the efficient day to day operations of the center.
Ensure the exhibits are innovative, attractive and supportive of learning.
Provide attractive informal learning experiences for students and general public.
Develop partnerships with industry, business and educational partners and ensure the center plays an important role in STEM education.
Provide a safe and welcoming environment aligned with good practice for all staff and visitors.
Coach and build teams to improve the capacity to deliver the vision of the center.
Ensure the educational and scientific integrity of the exhibits and programs is maintained.
Assist in securing external funding for the center.
Lead and coordinate the development of the annual budget, operating plan, and performance goals.
Refine procedures and practices of the center accordingly.
Participate on projects as necessary or appropriate.
Supervise scheduling of the use of the center by College faculty, students, community groups and individuals.
Actively promote the center within the community, through social media and other means.
Supervise the operation and upkeep of grounds, facilities, and equipment.
Prioritize workload and conflicting demands and complete duties in a timely manner.
Attend workshops, conferences, and trainings related to operation of the center.
Supervise the development and maintenance of the live specimens and exhibits in a safe and humane manner.
Supervise, train and evaluate the center's personnel.
Perform other professional duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, or Biology
5 years experience in Environmental Science, Conservation, or Biology
Should have or will need to soon obtain:
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permit for Possession for Education/Exhibition,
Texas Park and Wildlife Department permit for Scientific collection and Display.
International Wildlife Handling License
Must also have a valid Texas Drivers License

Preferred:
Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, or Biology
3 years experience in community science or environmental education program development
A valid teaching credential
First Aid and CPR certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skills

Provide hands on leadership with a focus on teamwork
.Analyze and evaluate data for specific use and apply problem solving skills
Communicate effectively through written and spoken communication
Apply effective group management strategies
Perform daily operations using computers and office related software
Knowledge
Knowledge of STEM subjects
Knowledge of various aspects of fund raising
Knowledge in managing budgets and personnel & related accounting processes & Procedures
Knowledge in the process and stages of wildlife rehabilitation including rescues and releases
Abilities
Ability to think strategically and deliver operationally
Ability to communicate effectively through public speaking and willingness to present to a variety of audiences
Ability to provide "hands on" technical experiences
Ability to work with other personnel in a courteous and professional manner
Ability to meet deadlines without supervision
Ability to organize and prioritize work projects
Ability to move through a variety of terrains and work in a variety of temperature and weather conditions.
