Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or Environmental Health and Safety related program

Experience:
  • 8-10 Years in EHS discipline, preferably in manufacturing/mechanical industry.
  • Experience working in and influencing a diverse workforce.
  • HAZMAT Emergency Response experience desired

Job Requirements:
  • Responsible for the program management of the Environmental Engineering function for the Applied Materials' RD&E and manufacturing operations in Gloucester and Newburyport, MA.
  • Performs a wide range of compliance duties including equipment and facility permitting, equipment installation design reviews, compliance auditing, record keeping and reporting, liaison with applicable regulatory agencies as required.
  • Position will report to the Manager of EHS responsible for operations in Massachusetts. Position will work closely with site management in Facilities, RD&E, Manufacturing, and other EHS staff to drive environmental programs, ensure regulatory compliance and promote continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Environmental programs and management systems are in place and effective to minimize the risks to employees, the environment and the community. Some of the Key Environmental programs for the site include:
    • ISO 14001
    • Chemical Authorization Program
    • Management of Change (MoC)
    • Process Emission and Abatement Assessment Programs
    • Hazardous Materials Management Program
    • Hazardous Waste Management
    • Air Emissions and Permitting management
    • Wastewater Permitting
    • NPDES Permit Management
    • EPA Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting
    • Site Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) Management
  • Ensures compliance with required environmental codes, standards and regulations. Act as a liaison with local, regional or federal regulatory authorities.
  • Ensures proper investigations of safety and environmental incidents conducted for EH&S events and drive corrective actions to closure
  • Review and report Environmental progress and performance for assigned site/function based on established EH&S metrics to site management.
  • Ensures that specific projects assigned are completed as planned to meet EH&S goals. Provides management with updates and escalation on projects/programs. Maintain communication channel with site/location functions.
  • Interfaces with internal and external customers regarding safety and environmental issues
  • Manage ENV consultants as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance on EH&S issues to the site manufacturing and engineering organizations and contribute to the development of site-wide EH&S standards and procedures.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies nights/weekends on occasion as required and occasionally work off shift to support the facility's 24/7 operational needs.
  • Develop relationships to foster safety culture improvements
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
