Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a motivated Restoration Ecologist to join the Natural Resources Group in the San Diego, CA office. This position would support numerous natural resource projects in the southern California region with a focus on native habitat restoration. Primary duties include restoration site monitoring, leading field crews for restoration implementation and site maintenance, electronic data collection, restoration project planning, and preparation of technical reports. Additional duties may include general biological surveys for plants and/or wildlife, listed species surveys, conservation plans, habitat management plans, biological surveys and monitoring to support wildfire fuels management, and assisting with various Natural Resource project tasks.
Job Summary
- Performing technical habitat restoration work including oversight of habitat restoration maintenance activities; native and nonnative vegetation monitoring/surveys, preparation of technical reports and/or report sections;implementing restoration projects; participation in restoration planning including development of plans and/or plan sections.
- Additional duties may include assisting on botanical surveys, listed species surveys, conservation plans, habitat management plans, weed management plans, and pesticide use management plans, or assisting with Natural Resource project tasks.
- This position will predominantly involve task-based assignments and task-level management and may involve some project management support.
- The candidate will participate in projects that involve innovative mitigation and conservation planning; multi-disciplinary teamwork with biologists, planners, wetland scientists and landscape architects; and creative integration of natural resource analysis and project design.
- The candidate may play a supporting role in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.
- This position works with a variety of clients and requires occasional travel.
- This position will include a combination of field and office work.

Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in Biology, Ecology or related field (i.e., Ecological Restoration, Watershed Planning, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science) + 2 years of relevant knowledge of different habitat restoration methodologies within a variety of habitat types in southern California and experience implementing restoration (e.g., container planting, seeding, and weed control) and Experience in biological survey fieldwork including vegetation monitoring utilizing line-intercept, transect, quadrat, and/or relevé methods, as well as experience with GPS and electronic data collection devices.Southern California native plant species knowledge and identification or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- A background in general ecology and ecological processes.
- Familiarity with issues related to wetland ecology, watershed planning, conservation planning, and/or natural resources planning.
- Basic knowledge of major state and federal agencies (e.g., USACE, USFWS, BLM, BoR, CDFW, RWQCB, and CCC) and major regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, ESA, CESA, CFGC, CWA and CCA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to create and maintain tracking spreadsheets and documents
- Valid driver license required and must be able to safely drive to job sites.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, identifying what needs to be accomplished and regularly completing tasks.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in California is a must. Experience in southwest U.S. is also favorable
- Experience completing Habitat Restoration Maintenance and Monitoring Reports, Mitigation and Monitoring Plans, Biological Assessments, Biological technical Reports, and/or EIR/EIS sections.
- Master's Degree in related field (biology, ecology, or project management) preferred.
- Prior consulting experience strongly preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience working for utility clients (e.g.,SDG&E)
