A Day in the Life
The manager works individually and as part of a team to ensure laboratory functions and tasks are prioritized appropriately, cost effective and completed in a timely manner with a focus on excellent customer service.
This position oversees development of laboratory staff, test method development, test method validated and routine testing operations. The focus of this laboratory is intended to be In-Vitro GLP testing which supports ISO 10993-1 compliant biological evaluations and disinfection testing related to reusable medical devices.
The manager is responsible to ensure that test performance and quality conform to established standards and regulatory agency guidelines and are delivered in a manner that promotes lasting customer satisfaction. Discrepancies are reviewed, analyzed, reported and corrective actions are developed.
- Oversees area of responsibility to effectively manage performance, develop talent, promote engagement and inclusion, while communicating priorities which align with operational developments and goals.
- Accountable for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding defined objectives and performance expectations.
- Providing consistent and frequent 1:1 guidance to direct reports on employee development and managing toward departmental goals.
- Promoting regulatory compliance to applicable standards for quality systems and test specific standards in support of Medtronics quality programs. This includes identifying and addressing gaps between laboratory practices and applicable standards and their revisions.
- Leading development, validation, and implementation of In-Vitro GLP and disinfection test methods in compliance with applicable standards.
- Managing laboratory operations cost effectively, within budget and with a customer service focus.
- Applying existing techniques and procedures with recommendations and implementation of updates which improve efficiency and promote continuous improvement. This includes reviewing SOPs and work instructions to ensure accuracy and continued applicability.
- Following standard operating procedures and maintaining technical knowledge of laboratory tasks.
- Participating in internal and external audits of the laboratory and ensuring audit findings are addressed in a timely manner.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Travel requirement: Less than 10%
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
- 5+ years relevant experience in a medical device testing laboratory or an advanced degree in biological or chemical science and a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience is required.
- Supervisory experience.
- Expertise in Aseptic Technique
- Experience operating within quality system requirements of regulations applicable to the medical device industry.
- Expertise in disinfection testing for reusable medical devices and related standards.
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
- Proficient at scheduling and coordinating events, delegating and managing team responsibilities, prioritizing and executing assignments, establishing and meeting deadlines, as well as leading and maintaining productivity in a team environment.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills.
- Able to function independently as well as in a team environment.
- Functions as an influential team member capable of motivating others in a cross-functional team environment to achieve project goals.
- Computer proficiency with product lifecycle management, word processing, spreadsheet, and analytical software is required.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, etc.)
