The Department of Office of Civic and Community Engagement has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Program Manager to work in the Coral Gables campus.

The University of Miami's Office of Civic and Community Engagement seeks a Program Manager to join its team of professionals. The Program Manager will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of designated projects related to housing resiliency and impacts related to extreme heat; conducting and overseeing research for sustainable design, housing policy, finance, climate equity, public health, and community development projects; ensuring the event / project goals and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters; and building relationships with public, private, and non-profit community partners. The Manager should have a research background with experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods and policy analysis in community development or a related field, the ability to communicate effectively through written reports and public presentations, expertise managing a complex project through different phases through to completion, and experience working with community-based organizations. The Manager will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education.

The Program Manager will be joining our team at an exciting time for the Office of Civic and Community Engagement. The University of Miami Office of Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) will collaborate with local stakeholders to further the office's work examining the impacts of climate change on Miami's affordable housing, identifying creative design and policy solutions to increase Miami's adaptive capacity while building new networks to strengthen urban resiliency. Specifically, CCE and its partners will study solutions to develop comprehensive and expert-guided resilience strategies for affordable housing developments and low-income neighborhoods that disproportionately experience the brunt of extreme heat and its aftershocks. The team will also create tools that encourage maintenance and development of affordable and resilient housing and consider equitable access to resilience implementation across our region.

In addition, CCE will expand its existing mapping tools with robust data that visualizes the intersection of housing affordability and climate change, and expand the Miami Resiliency Policy Toolkit to feature adaptation, mitigation, and resilience measures related to the impacts of extreme heat on livability, accessibility, and public health. This work will enable CCE to elevate its tools to a national audience, through: scaling and tailoring engagement strategies for other cities; providing best practices for effective data collection and visualization for affordable housing and climate-related indicators; and creating a customizable outreach/communication guide and best practices.

We are seeking a highly productive, creative and engaged individual who will continue to build the program and develop new projects that leverage the university's resources in the field of housing and community development. This position is a grant funded position and is subject to renewal of funding. You may be employed in this capacity for the duration of the grant.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Designing scope of research and programs, developing and executing project work plans and arranging for recruitment and assignment of resources to execute projects.
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with community partners in housing, community development, and climate adaptation for conducting joint projects and facilitating access to CCE programming.
  • Coordinating with internal CCE staff, graduate students, and project team members to designate tasks and workplans and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Developing and coordinating project activities with collaborating University departments, and identifying the potential for new working relationships across the University.
  • Gathering and analyzing housing, demographic, environmental, and public health data from public agencies and working with software engineers and GIS specialists to maintain and update the Miami Housing Solutions Lab online mapping tool and policy toolkit.
  • Synthesizing existing scientific literature and preparing project results for publication.
  • Presenting and training public officials, community leaders and private-sector organizations in uses of the updated GIS tool and Policy Toolkit.
  • Identifying and assisting with grant applications for related projects.
  • Coordinating agendas, preparing documents, logistics, and minutes, and following up for project-related community partner and departmental meetings.
  • Assisting other departments on special projects, promotions, duties, etc., as needed or requested.

  • Master's degree in social science, public policy, urban planning or related field preferred and two years of appropriate experience. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
