About Our Job Do you enjoy being outdoors and have a passion for parks and recreation? Are you looking for a new and exciting opportunity to make Denver a livable, inclusive, and healthy city? Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is excited to announce the launch of its new University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) internship program. We will be hiring 2 interns to support park planning, park design, and park construction related duties. The interns will assist in and rotate within 2 tracks of DPR: 1 semester in the Planning Division and 1 semester in the Design & Construction Division. Each intern will experience both tracks beginning 1 track and then halfway through rotating to the 2nd track. The anticipated duration of the experience is approximately 9 months beginning in fall 2021 with approximately 15 hours per week and is work study eligible. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in CU Denver College of Architecture and Planning. As a collaborative educational endeavor, this internship will afford students opportunities to understand the process of design and implementation of projects through a local governmental agency. As Denver Parks and Recreation contracts with private design firms, students will also have options for mentorship and collaboration with partner firms. University of Colorado Denver's College of Architecture and Planning will offer tuition assistance for students who seek to engage in an internship-for credit. Denver has over 5,000 acres of traditional parks and parkways which include 2,500 urban natural acres, over 300 acres of parks designated Rivers & Trails and an additional 14,000 acres of spectacular mountain parks. This internship will provide opportunities to learn about project design and construction, ecological systems in urban and mountain parks, grant development, park maintenance, and resiliency practices. As an intern you will have the opportunity to experience: * Support planning and management of capital projects throughout Denver's urban park system to advance the goals and recommendations of The Game Plan for a Healthy City * Support public meetings and environmental education events to engage residents in efforts to enhance our parks with new park amenities and pollinators, water conservation and wildlife habitat in the city * Work with field crews on restoration and land management projects * Collaborate with park maintenance staff, Planning, Design and Construction, other city agencies and external partners to design and implement new projects * Monitor and maintain current information on projects, programs and activities throughout the parks to manage public inquiries and comments About You Our Ideal Intern will have/be: * Familiarity with 3D modeling software and graphic presentations, using Adobe Creative Suite In-Design, Auto Cad * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Experience with MS Office suite and professional email correspondence * High level of organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload * Excellent ability/understanding in providing good customer service, being adaptable and flexible * Strong inquisitive critical thinker with a solution-oriented focus * Ability to take initiative and a self-started * Ability to work in a collaborative environment as a team player and independently * Federal Work Student Eligible (preferred not required) Additional required documents that must be submitted at the time application to be considered for this position: * College transcripts - either official or unofficial * Cover letter detailing why you are interested in this position We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: * Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, Associate's, Bachelor's, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion), specifically must be enrolled in CU Denver College of Architecture and Planning. * Experience Requirement: None * Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted * Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment About Everything Else Job Profile TA3181 Professional Administration Intern To view the full job profile including position specifications, physical demands, and probationary period, click here.
