The EH&S Specialist II is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations pertaining to environmental, health and safety regulations and global corporate standards. Works with a cross functional team, including Engineering, Quality, Facilities and Operations supporting these functions to ensure routine work, process and equipment changes are safely executed, compliant with EHS requirements. Drives continuous improvement in Environmental, Health & Safety performance.
Your responsibilities will include:Responsible for understanding the BSC EH&S programs to ensure compliance with current and future legal, regulatory and corporate requirements.Proactively identifies and promptly addresses EH&S issues which may affect operations or may provide strategic advantage to the business and provides input for management review meetings. Conducts EH&S reviews of process and equipment changes at the facility to ensure compliance with all applicable EH&S requirements, including the OSHA Process Safety Management standard.Conducts job hazard/PPE assessments.Manage the Respiratory Protection and Ethylene Oxide Exposure Control Programs to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements. Ensure availability and maintenance of personnel monitoring equipment. Monitor and analyze data (such as ethylene oxide concentrations in the workplace) and proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Work with cross-functional team to implement changes and monitor for effectiveness of changes.Assists in implementation of facility's OSHA Process Safety Management Program. Including tracking and facilitating closure of recommendations from process hazardous analyses (PHA) and audit conducted and participation in PHAs and Quarterly Safety Review Meetings. Ensures facility is compliant with all applicable OSHA requirements, including, but not limited to Lock-out, Tag-out, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, etc.Responsible for management of Contractor Safety Program, Review and approve new chemicals to ensure compliance with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and maintain inventory of chemicals on-site and associated safety data sheets. Assists in development and implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management Program for facility certification to the ISO 45001 standard. Development and maintenance of compliance obligation register and corrective action plan for the facility. Management of the Incident Investigation and Corrective Action Program, including leading & conducting investigations with a multi-discipline team. Prioritize corrective actions based on risk and facilitate timely closure of incidents and implementation of corrective actions. Preparation of regulatory reports required to be submitted to state and federal agencies such as EPA Tier II Reports and OSHA 300 Logs. Assists with activities for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organization, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), the Occupational Lost/Restricted Worktime Rate (OLTR) and corporate assessments. Assists in the development of an effective Safety culture through cross-functional cooperation, communications, promotions and training including employee training on EH&S procedures, industrial hygiene activities, safety surveys, review and revision of local procedures. Drives continuous improvement by ensuring implementation of EHS of continuous improvement projects.Participates in the ongoing development and implementation of the Environmental Management System. (ISO 14001).Responsible for facility emergency preparedness and response activities, including maintaining a current Emergency Action Plan, planning and conducting evacuation and spill response drills and taking an active leadership role in EH&S emergency situations. Assists in ensuring adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire, accidents and all other emergency situations. Responsible for ensuring the Security is adhering to BSC policies and procedure pertaining to EH&S, including regular interface with Security and ensuring post orders are current.Works in partnership with other Boston Scientific EH&S professionals to establish or adopt company demonstrated best practices relevant to our industry.What we're looking for in you:Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related degree.Minimum of 3 years' EHS experience in a manufacturing and/or industrial setting.Experience building and leading teams focused on EHS culture change and continuous improvement.Ability to work with cross-functional groups and manage EHS programs that impact the entire site.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficient in the use of Excel for analyzing data for trends, creating charts and graphs.Knowledge of injury/incident prevention programs (ergonomic, chemical safety, root cause analysis, problem solving techniques.).Experience conducting risk assessments (JHA).Experience reporting to local, state and federal regulatory bodies (air permitting, wastewater, OSHA)Willingness to wear a full-face respirator (with a SCBA) for certain tasks (expected to be less than five percent of the time), unless unable to wear one for medical reasons.Preferred Qualifications:Engineering degree in chemical or environmental engineeringExperience developing, implementation and maintenance of EHS Management Systems, in particular ISO 14001 and ISO 45001Working knowledge of environmental regulations, in particular CAA, RCRA, and CWA.Experience with compliance the OSHA Process Safety Management Program requirements and conducting process hazard analyses. DOT Hazardous Materials General Awareness (Title 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H) certificate.Familiarity with regulations pertaining to Resource Recovery & Conservation Act (RCRA), Clean Air Act (CAA) and Clean Water Act (CWA).Experience in compiling and leading training exercises for groups of employees.Working knowledge of OSHA workplace regulations and standards, including, but not limited to those that pertain to the OSHA Process Safety Management Standard (such as confined space, lock-out - tagout, hot work, fall protection).Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities and tasks and see projects through to completion in a timely manner.Requisition ID: 486101As a leader in medical science for more than 40 years, we are committed to solving the challenges that matter most - united by a deep caring for human life.
