What You Will Do
Join our multi-disciplinary deployed environmental compliance support team within Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), a research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. You will utilize your education, experience, and leadership in this environmental professional position to assist in meeting our environmental compliance requirements. Your depth and breadth of your skills and experience will be used on our multi-disciplinary team. Our team, within the Environmental Compliance Programs Group is seeking individuals with a self-motivated job ethic to provide environmental compliance support to facilities, operations, and projects. You will collaborate with Environmental Protection and Compliance Division's program subject matter experts to ensure environmentally compliant operations while being a trusted resource assisting the organization you are deployed to in navigating the numerous environmental requirements applicable to your assigned area. During the course of your job duties you are likely to work with subject matter experts across the diverse environmental programs at the Lab.
Your day-to-day activities will likely include a diverse scope of environmental requirements including:
- Completing environmental compliance inspections and documentation,
- Completing site/field assessments against environmental requirements,
- Assessing environmental risk and collaborating with customers to develop corrective actions,
- Creating/revising environmental implementation documents or reports,
- Collaborating with environmental program subject matter experts and the deployed customers to ensure planned work is conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- A thorough understanding of and working experience implementing at least three of the major federal environmental protection statutes as they relate to water quality, air quality, biological resources, pollution prevention, cultural resources and National Environmental Policy Act, etc.
- Advanced knowledge and experience evaluating, developing, modifying and implementing proposed work scope and technical documents for adequacy with regard to pertinent environmental requirements.
- Advanced experience working well both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment through strong interpersonal skills.
- Advanced ability to provide excellent customer service within a team environment where practicable/thorough solutions to complex problems are provided consistent with environmental requirements.
- Significant experience and skill in communicating (both written and verbal) major elements of environmental protection in a clear concise manner to both technical and non-technical personnel including superiors, peers, customers, and other personnel while promoting a teaming work environment.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q Clearance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations, and activities in both environmental and operational areas.
- Significant experience with implementing federal and state codes, standards, and regulations in several key environmental areas, such as Environmental Protection Agency: National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System; Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures; and EPA Title V Air permitting.
- Environmental certifications such as Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Registered Environmental Manager, EPA Method 9 Opacity Certification.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
