Job Summary:

Work under close supervision to perform standard technical work requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related tasks. May assume responsibility for direction of one or more technicians during a specified field effort or project assignment. This position is field-oriented with routine field work such as sampling or monitoring activity predominating and some participation in report writing.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform environmental field- and office-based studies for flora and fauna surveys, avian surveys, wetland delineation and determination, as well as the production of construction documents and specifications.
  • Perform ecological modeling and assist with natural features assessments, threatened & endangered species surveys and permitting, wetland delineation and permitting, and ecological monitoring.
  • Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of Central US native and invasive/nuisance plant identification.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Conduct desktop research; read and be able to summarize technical studies, regulations, and regulatory guidance on a range of environmental issues.
  • Assist project managers and team leads with project management, coordinating field staff and ensuring project deadlines are met.
  • Support business development and marketing for Natural Resource services in the Central US.

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in natural resources, terrestrial or aquatic ecology, or related environmental field and 3 to 5 years' related experience in environmental field- and office-based studies for flora and fauna surveys, avian surveys, and wetland delineation and determination - or Master's degree and 2 to 3 years' related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in wetland delineation/permitting required.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) a plus.
  • USFWS Threatened and Endangered Species permit-holder preferred.
  • Wildlife identification, threatened & endangered species survey/permitting experience desired.

Job Essentials:
  • Maintain valid driver's license and 4WD with trailer experience required.
  • Microsoft Office, GPS, plant identification, invasive species management, public speaking, and technical memorandum and report writing required;
  • Lengthy field work required (35 to 50 percent anticipated). Heavy lifting, pulling, hiking, long days, ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, with significant overnight travel.
  • Requires working in dirty environments, on/in water, rough terrain, inclement weather, with exposure to pollinators including bees
  • Must be self-motivated with sound professional judgement;
  • Able to work as part of multidisciplinary team and independently with little direct supervision;
  • Flexible and able to juggle multiple projects and changing priorities without missing deadlines or losing sight of overall project goals;
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical writing skills, and attention to detail;
  • Foster an environment emphasizing safety awareness and the safe performance of work; and,
  • Contribute to a positive, professional environment and explore and engage both new and existing ECT clients with the ability to deliver services outside of your own expertise but within the collective expertise of the firm.
