CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Environmental Compliance Scientist to join our Power - Environmental group in Syracuse, or Colonie, NY.

CHA is uniquely qualified to assist any client with environmental services. From initial site characterization through remediation, CHA draws on the expertise of staff team members that possess considerable environmental site assessment and remediation experience. We have been providing environmental consulting services more than 25 years, and we employ a team of approximately 100 scientists and engineers who keep abreast of current regulatory issues.

The Environmental Compliance Scientist, a key role at CHA, leads the technical execution of projects within his/her discipline and provides expert consultation in one or more areas of the respective field of engineering. At CHA, our Environmental Compliance Scientist plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of a project independently with other disciplines and project management staff. This key role provides guidance, mentorship, and technical review of work completed by junior level staff. The Environmental Compliance Scientist provides technical development of proposals and external presentations (i.e., clients, public, regulatory agency, etc.). The Environmental Compliance Scientist provides compliance assistance at client sites to identify and fix compliance issues, prepare compliance reports, notice of violations, and negotiate with regulatory agencies regarding compliance issues.

The Environmental Compliance Scientist resolves highly complex technical issues, and continuously monitors the progress and performance on a project to ensure efficient production and uncover potential problems. The Environmental Compliance Scientist recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results and makes appropriate corrections following standard procedures and recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of design.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering required

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive environmental compliance experience is required
  • Expert knowledge of the environmental compliance programs and regulations
  • Experience conducting compliance audits, reporting and training
  • Understands QA/QC procedures and understands basic business practices and laws related to engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences
  • Proficiency with MS Office software required
  • Willingness to travel to provide compliance assistance at client sites in both Central and Western NY (75% travel required)
  • Active role in a professional scientific or engineering society/organization preferred
