Company Overview:
At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we're not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we're driving excellence and improving outcomes. We're treating cancer, one patient at a time. Job Description:
Do you want to join an innovative team and contribute to cancer research? Are you creative and interested in solving meaningful problems? Then join us here at MSK, where we can provide you with the opportunity to make a difference with your career. We believe that this is a great role for someone who has the right background to be a part of our dynamic team and who wants to apply their skills to support our mission here.
The Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) at MSKCC is searching for extraordinary computational data scientists with an interest in developing and applying bioinformatic/quantitative methods to problems in translational cancer biology. You should have a proven background in both bioinformatics and cancer biology to lead and assist in state-of-the-art genomics analysis. This particular role represents a unique opportunity for the successful applicant to join the lung cancer research program at MSKCC, whilst being embedded with a team of computational biologists and bioinformatic engineers in the creative and supportive environment of the CMO Computational Science group. The successful applicant will work closely with scientists at the Thoracic Oncology services and Druckenmiller Lung Center, which provides a dynamic and exciting environment at the cutting-edge of translational lung cancer research, targeted therapies, metabolomics, and immunology.
The successful applicant will analyze large-scale human and mouse genomics data, including whole-genome sequences, metagenomes, bulk RNA-Seq, ATAC seq, metabolomics, methylation arrays, biomarker analysis proteomics and single cell RNAseq in a highly collaborative environment that spans different areas of MSKCC's cutting-edge research, including drug resistance, tumor plasticity, tumor evolution, metastasis, immunology, targeted therapies, clinical trial data, and computational biology, and contribute to manuscript writing and publishing. By joining the team, you will help us accelerate lung cancer research and create life-saving therapies.
You Are:
Adept at building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives and goals
A good decision-maker, capable of making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational needs
An effective cross disciplinary communicator
Able to drive data analysis approaches and operate independently
Adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situations
To be considered for a Sr. Computational Biologist, you need:
Master's, Ph.D., or equivalent in biological science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or related discipline with strong quantitative background
Strong programming skills and experience with scientific computing software and scripting languages
Research experience in statistical genetics/genomics and familiarity with next-generation sequence data and analysis tools
Cancer research experience required
A thorough understanding and experience in statistics
Excellent oral and written English communication skills; experience in delivering oral scientific presentations and writing scientific articles also strongly preferred
