How will you make an impact?
As part of the biology R & D team you will be at the forefront of protein and cell analysis, developing, fabricating and testing fluorescent reagents for single cell analysis using high-dimensional flow cytometry and microscopy. The scientist in this role will work in a cross-functional team to drive technical innovations by creating reagents aimed at pushing the boundaries of multi-dimensional, single cell immunophenotyping via spectral flow cytometry.
What will you do?
- Develop, characterize, and validate new fluorescent reagents for high-dimensional flow cytometry.
- Oversee product development activities or in some cases, the complete product development workflow.
- Serve as the technical lead or as one of several biologists on cross-functional teams.
- Interpret data, present results to broader audience, and highlight take-aways and risks.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for optimization of standard operating procedures.
- Directly interact with senior R&D leadership, product management, and project management to develop and execute project plans that support product development initiatives.
- Provide a significant level of independence and strong teamwork.
- Manage multiple experiments concurrently to meet product release timelines.
- Generate ideas for new product concepts based on understanding of customer needs.
How will you get here?
Education
- MS/PhD in immunology, biology, biochemistry or related field with 3 years relevant experience.
- BS with 5 years' relevant experience.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in immunology, biology, molecular biology or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years experience staining, acquiring and analyzing cells in flow cytometry.
- Experience in industrial setting preferred.
- Experience in fluorescence microscopy preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong background in flow cytometry including performing functional assays, immunophenotyping, designing and implementing multiplex panels, and spectral flow cytometry.
- Understanding of cytometry data analysis techniques (e.g. population gating, compensation, etc.).
- Proficiency with flow cytometry analysis software (e.g. FlowJo).
- Ability to process tissue and isolate cells, particularly human PBMCs and mouse splenocytes.
- Experience preparing and culturing human and mouse primary immune cells.
- Hands-on experience with both intracellular and extracellular multi-color staining.
- Experience in authoring and optimizing standard operating procedures with a focus on reproducibility.
- Aptitude for identifying deviations from expected outcomes, troubleshooting those deviations, and suggesting alternatives.
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work alongside colleagues from different backgrounds.
- Ability to succeed with a moderate level of supervision and guidance.
- Strongly preferred: working knowledge of fluorescence microscopy, fluorescence detection technologies, cell-based assay development or 3D model systems.
